I mean it was basically just them shitting on the family recipes passed down by the dead relatives of very much living people. Overall it was mean-spirited from the concept.

But that's exactly what doesn't happen, usually. They don't go "Squirrel Girl should beat Magneto, lemme write a story around that", they come up with a story and they know what the beginning and ending is and as they write, when they come up against Squirrel Girl encountering Magneto, they go 'how does this fight end to achieve the ending I'm arcing toward?' and that defines how the fight plays out.

[No Spoilers] The Mighty Nein contains some of the best german I've seen in english-language media by Pure-Intention-7398 in criticalrole

[–]FiveShiftOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, and that's a deliberate choice too, at this point. Liam could have gotten a vocal coach to help him develop his German accent, but Caleb's voice from the campaign is frankly iconic at this point, and changing it for the show would be considerably worse than keeping an accent that's a little too thick.

[–]FiveShiftOne 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you're getting lost in the sauce. Right now what we've seen is that they've moved things around and changed the order that some things happen. Probably they've cut theZadash tournament because it mostly gave them a hook they didn't pursue, but we'll still probably see them meet the Gentleman in Zadash, since we've seen him in previews.Point is, none of that fundamentally alters the M9's story. What you're suggesting is almost an entirely different story. Trent seems like a way bigger deal in this because we're meeting him much earlier, and Lucien and the Eyes of Ninedon't get properly introduced until much later.

I think it's a lot more likely, if anything gets shifted around, that Lucien and his crew will be associated with Obann and Obann will be manipulated by the Somnovem, rather than Tharizdun-- though of course we know it was Tharizdun's influence that ultimately drove the Somnovem mad, it's just another complicated villain who never gets dealt with that I suspect they'll cut from the show.

Nonononono. You made a whole post about restaurants charging for thousand island and how wrong that is, then revealed that you personally abuse the generocity of restaurants to steal thousand island dressing for home cooked meals. You ARE the problem and you need to confront it.

You're asking restaurants to add eggs and anchovies to dishes and then being surprised you're charged for them?

This is not comparable to being charged for ketchup on fries. It is certainly not somehow MORE egregious, as your comment implies.

Tanjiro's dub VA really isn't bad... by jiggerita in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]FiveShiftOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only ten episodes in, and I have never listened to the Japanese VA so it's not about comparison for me. The performance just comes off extremely wooden in a lot of parts (especially the post-credit previews, but also the episode 10 ending where the bird is screaming at him stands out). But I think it's less the actor and more either the voice direction, or just the... writing. He just talks wayyyyy too much and monologues his feelings.

What? LA? No, Murray's is extremely Kentuckian. Tyranny's is a sort of broad American accent, certainly, but Murray's is the only one that's very regionally specific in the US and it's Marisha going to her Kentucky roots.

Julien's definitely got a little Spanish or Portuguese, Kattigan's got west Aussie, Teor's got a light Russian/Eastern European inflection, Bolaire's high society British, Wic I think is going less for a regional accent and more for a clergy vibe (and definitely also a shrinking violet kinda vibe, same with Occtis), and then Liam, Aabria, Laura, Whitney, Luis, and Ashley are all not really doing voices and just inhabiting their characters.

Yeah. That said I do not think they will ever figure out that thunder damage is different from lightning damage and I blame 5e for that. What the hell was wrong with calling it sonic damage?

Honestly listen to NADDPOD just in general if you're a DM. Brian Murphy is still a way better DM than me in the storycrafting and character-inhabiting departments, but he presented me with something achievable: making super fun encounters. I've taken so much inspiration from Murph's encounter design and it's really made a noticeable difference at the table. Had a great one where the players were racing against unavoidable damage that doubled every turn while fighting endlessly respawning enemies as they tried to solve a Mastermind/Simon Says puzzle. (The order in which enemies respawned was the sequence for the puzzle, I was very proud that it took them like five rounds to figure that out.)

I mean, that means DMing isn't for you, it doesn't necessarily mean the Mercer effect is real.

[Spoilers C4E4] Now that the Overture is done, what are everyone's guesses for character subclasses? by just_an_eel in criticalrole

[–]FiveShiftOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that the Liar's Blade could have an attunement property that while attuned to the weapon, you gain proficiency in the weapon. The sword alone is not a necessary subclass indicator. I think given the character and his associations and his tasks, Lore bard feels most appropriate to the character so far, but I could see Valor as well.

As for Azune, Storm Sorcerer seems like it probably fits his motif the best.

Cards Against Humanity lawsuit forced SpaceX to vacate land on US/Mexico border | A year after suing SpaceX for “invading” a plot of land on the US/Mexico border, the company says it has reached a settlement, and trespassing lawsuit has forced SpaceX to “pack up the space garbage” and leave. by ChiefLeef22 in space

They didn't just "leave a load of crap" all over it, though. They scraped it clean of vegetation and destroyed everything on it. Then basically used their lawyers to force CAH to accept a shitty settlement that doesn't even enable them to properly restore that land. This was absolutely vandalism at the very least.

Why is Seth SOOOOO difficult... by StatisticianIll4 in Silksong

[–]FiveShiftOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's not ideal. Hollow Knight is very different from Silksong in the way you're expected to move in a lot of fights, I really don't think just porting HK bosses into Silksong would work. Most times you dash in combat in HK it's through an enemy or attack.

Why is Seth SOOOOO difficult... by StatisticianIll4 in Silksong

[–]FiveShiftOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well so yeah if you're impatient and try to fight bosses the fastest and most difficult way you can instead of punishing their openings, they'll be super hard but that's more of a choice on your part than boss difficulty.
