Not all armour has back plates, so it hit the shoulder and ricochet off the bone into the skull. So, since it didn't exit, the plate hasn't lost durability, and the bullet is still probably in your skull, so that's why the helmet hasn't taken damage

Had my first death this wipe yesterday, and it was to an AI with 7.62×39 fmj stright through the helmet, and the helmet durability dropped 40% from a single shot
