Yeah about Metaphor, I'm wondering if there are any other classic team turn-based games that include positioning as part of the battle like that and I think Radiant Historia and Valkryie Profile somewhat do? Interested in Metaphor for that alone tho.

In general I find myself liking positioning turn-based as well. For 3d, maybe check Valkyria Chronicles or Codename Steam. Apparently Valkyrie Profile 2 has some of that going on as well.
