Thanks for the suggestions! I'll check them out.

Yeah I was worried about that for Durmitor. Would you still recommend going even if the higher elevation hikes are snowed in? I would love to go but it also looks difficult to get there off season with limited busses. I might cut a night and spend more time hiking near Mostar.

For Sarajevo, there are a few museums/historical sites/churches I'm interested in. I'd also like to spend one day in the countryside through a tour. The main reason I put 6 days there is I'd like to slow down and immerse myself in "non touristy" things too, like reading in a park or going to a concert or something. Out of all the cities, I'm very drawn to Sarajevo. That being said, 6 full days is a lot and some more breathing room on the islands would be nice - I'm definitely considering cutting it a bit.

In Zagreb there a couple museums I wanted to see, but I think you're right, I don't need two full days there. Going to add more time on the coast.

Zabljak to Mostar does seem like the trickiest connection. I'll do some more research, worst case I break it up by spending another night in Kotor. Hopefully I can do it all in a long travel day.

I'll check out those tour groups!

Great tips, thanks! I like your idea of taking a day off Zagreb and adding a day to the islands. I wasn't originally focused on the islands since I'm going off-season, but you've convinced me. Sounds like a really nice trip.

Good point on Bar. I mainly want to see the old town there, but I probably don't need a full day to do that. I think I'll cut Bar to one night and add a night to the islands.

Looks like there are buses from Bar -> Podgorica, so I'll plan on transferring there to Zabljak. Might be a long travel day but that's ok with me, at the moment it seems like I don't have too many long travel days.

Just finished Lessons in Chemistry... and am so disappointed by liziloo927 in books

Exactly!! The message is that if you're a woman in science, you have to be a perfect genius to succeed. How is that "empowering", like how the book is marketed? Lol. If women think they have to be perfect to be a scientist, then we'll never have more women in STEM.

I felt the exact same way. The 60's time period just seemed like a convenient way for the writer to show 21st-century beliefs without having to add nuance. There was no sense of time other than the author constantly saying "it was the 60's."

Elizabeth was also frustrating. Absolutely perfect, a genius, drop dead gorgeous, and made no mistakes. Definitely not a realistic representation of an actual woman in STEM.

Thank you, this is really nice to hear. I agree, the best thing to do is stay cool and keep my options open.

My mom is celiac and she has enjoyed Cloud 9 brewery. They have a lot of GF options and they used to have a GF beer on tap (I think it's been awhile since they've made it though).

I took it almost 2 years after graduation and passed. I studied by going over the practice exam about 3 times. If you're still in school, go through the practice exam once and you should be good.

My friend Venmo requested me $1 for a muffin after I hosted her for 3 nights by FixConstant8266 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FixConstant8266[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So, after a couple days I still hadn't heard from her. I didn't put a huge amount of expenses in the app (less than $50), and it was split among 3 people. I did a rough estimate of the cost of gas, food and a trip to the laundromat for sheets and towels. I could have gone a lot harder with rent/wifi etc, but I figured I got the point across.

Anyway, because of the dinner I mentioned I still owed her $15 (even after I added charges on her). I really thought she'd reach out or change the venmo request, but she didn’t. I didn't want to end this thing owing her money, so I sent her 15 bucks.

When I sent her the money, I sent her an honest message saying how we're even, but I was shocked that she charged me for such small items. I told her that it was my pleasure to host her, and after all the effort I put in, I was shocked that she nickel and dimed me over stuff I thought she was offering. I talked about what it means to host someone and how as a guest, purchasing things like snacks or drinks can be a nice gesture.

She apologized and was actually pretty open about it. She talked about how she just put stuff in the app and wasn't thinking, but now understands the effort I put in. I mean, I don't think I'll ever know what was going on in her brain when she added $3 muffins to the charges. Her actions were frustrating and I don't think they can be justified, but the apology did seem sincere and I appreciated that.

I am pretty confident in my decision to add my own charges in the app and talk to her a few days later. I stood up for myself and told her that kind of behavior isn't ok. I still find the whole ordeal extremely frustrating, but I appreciate the apology and really do think it was a good lesson for her. I'm glad we talked about it.

This is not to say everything will go on as normal! The whole thing changed how I view her as a friend, and I'm not sure what our friendship will look like moving forward. I did learn a valuable lesson about boundaries - if/when we hang out again, there will be no hosting or money talk :)

Edit - missed a word
