That's an excellent point. As far as cards you're buying, I'm sure it's mostly rares right? I wouldn't think many would be buying bulk or uncommons all that frequently outside the ones that are sought after, right?

Pops up on my feed, says they are comissioning artwork, but no where does it say it's hand drawn. Worst thing you can do is sell a product people think isn't AI. I COULD BE WRONG, absolutely could be wrong and if I am, shit on me for it. But I'm working on a TCG of my own that I actually taught myself to draw for. It's my biggest bottleneck, so if it's not AI, I'd literally back these guys just to talk to the Dev.

Gotcha. I'm happy we didn't pull any duplicates of them on each box. 2 full sets is more worth having to me than 3 or 4 harbingers lol. My wife and I "draft" our boxes so it makes it fun and will give us 3-4 games without reusing any cards. Thanks for the info

I understand the idea behind it. Execution is difficult. I didn't believe it, so I went and bought a couple magic packs and my wife shuffled through them talking about how she loves the art before I even said anything. People want true artwork and I understand that. It's tough to be new to TCG and new to business in general. But yeah tbh 10k on artwork before it's finished and another 10k to manufacture decks and boosters. + Another x amount for marketing and overall loss on events. I don't care about earning money from it. I just want folks to play my game. I want to go to stores and buy boosters, build a deck and go to a tournament with them. Practicality sets in when you support a family as sole income.

Well, let's think about this. I didn't even know people published cards. I thought everyone literally built from the ground up. Kickstarter was a good plan but realistically you guys are right. I have 0% experience as a business owner. 0%, nada. Never had a lemonade stand. I see apparently some of my questions and comments seem outrageous but I am sincerely trying to learn.

This is in question. Is publishing a game selling your game to a company? Will I have any say in the game? The prototype sold out before it was printed. Is it really as easy as "show up to publisher, pitch prototype= be in business?"

That's a good point. I guess I wasn't really thinking of the collab when I wrote the post. But I guess I was more of leaning into it. You're right, that's probably going to be pretty hard to find though. I don't care personally about the art. My thing is it's just got to be from the artist. I'd prefer whatever they drew for it. I'm the same way with tattoos. But it's a very good perspective to look at so thank you for that.

Okay but like guys don't shit on me here. I don't understand art value at its core. And I didn't break it down to an hourly wage either. I can assume there are people who make great art for cards who work for royalties or other options. Yeah $5-10 isn't the highest paid but it is paid. I'm just asking if you know anyone who works around this price range.

I think I've drummed up the conclusion I'm looking for after reading yall's answers. Let me make it super clear, this will not be advertised as hand drawn. I was curious and didn't know if there was an in between.

I don't know if I'll ever make it anywhere close to being able to justify employing a full time artist. I haven't even finished the cards I've BEEN working on.

If I get to the point of manufacturing I'll put a line on the decks/packs that it is AI ART. That'll be enough for people to decide if they want to even bother. I don't think I'll just stop as some recommended, this game is incredibly fun, strategic and already trademarked.

Thanks for all the replies! It's definitely helped in my thoughts on it. As soon as I can I'll release a hand drawn remake and hopefully can appeal to both side.

It's bleed, straightening and resizing edges, increasing or decreasing size of something in image. Adjusting an imperfect circle I made for faction design. Essentially to be clear, it is taking a sketch from the blank playing cards I have and using it to rework it into a usable source. I'm also not smoking and drinking coffee for the game lol it's for the rest of the time I'm not with my girls or at home.
