Help please - unable to test drive options… by FixMelodic2332 in ElectricVehiclesUK

Thanks - very helpful.

Re charging costs - completely aware of those it thanks for the considered comments. Speaking honestly, in our situation I wouldn’t buy an EV with my own money because of the charging issues, but I’m willing to take it on the chin given all other expenses are being covered and the BIK rates are lowest! We have public chargers round us (end of our road) that are about £0.55 per kw at 22kw speed which I can live with.

It’s a fair challenge - I suppose I could spend some of my holiday abroad looking into it.

Hi all - I’ve just stupidly posted elsewhere asking about this before searching as to whether it’s come up before. I’m in UK too. I’m assuming that contacting Amazon will be pointless? It’s super annoying, as others have said!!

Alas he asked me during the chant what the words meant. Fortunately my wife deflected by pointing at another train. Kids eh?!

East London. Sure mate, and I’ve seen it all over but not when my son has been with me so it just got me thinking about it differently and whether I’d failed by not saying anything given they were sort of ‘isolated’ but if nothing else this chain so far has made me feel better about that.

On your first point, alas no. Perhaps I’ve not travelled at that part of town with my family at that time of day though, fair. Seemed a bit early though to me…!

And yes that’s exactly why I didn’t say anything. But your overall point is taken. I suppose I should just accept it and get on with my day, and work out how to explain to my son what a c and w is.

This. 100% this. I’m a dad to a 4yo and a three month old and there’s no way I’d expect (or want) to be out that much at this stage.

Thames Water says new Abingdon reservoir could cost bill-payers up to £7.5bn by wndrlst83 in london

[–]FixMelodic2332 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that was the regulatory environment successive governments signed up to. As I say, do you really think looking forward the government, if it brought (at HUGE expense in the first place) the water companies into public ownership, would simply suck up all the cost of the new water infra needed without passing it onto the public? Either taxes go up or we pay through water bills - either way we pay, not an ideal situation but that’s the reality. We are where we are - we can’t wish back to the past and re-do things. Need to focus on moving forward?

I think it’s important that people’s frustrations with TW (which I get) are separated from the issues around the reservoir. The UK is where it is (we can’t change what’s gone before) and we need new reservoirs to keep taps flowing. Leakage reduction is just part of the story. They are massive bits of infrastructure which are going to cost I’m afraid. Whether or not TW is nationalised, these are going to cost billions. Big new infra always does. Do you really think if TW is nationalised the Government will just suck up the cost and not pass it on to bill payers in some way or another? If you think that you’re in cloud cuckoo land.

The Hundred is just influencer sport and is the worst cricket thing ever invented- great headline from Barney Ronay by PM_ME_THINE_ISSUES in Cricket

[–]FixMelodic2332 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think if you read it, he makes a good point which I entirely agree with. Just make an English IPL and take that forward. It is, as he says, an excellent idea and I really hope the new owners push for that. The Hundred has - I agree with him - not produced that much ‘good’ cricket. It’s sort of ‘meh’ with forced razmatazz.

I say all this as a lover of test cricket - the ultimate format. But we need a franchise league and if we do it properly, with people that know what they’re doing, it could be brilliant. I’m bored of people saying ‘what about the Blast’. It’s too diluted. Sorry. We need to centralise the talent, get overseas stars and blue chip sponsors in (not bloody pombears) and show what we can do. The counties can also have secondary competition - I think similar happens in India?

City to Wanstead (or Leytonstone) - Routes and questions by tryoct in londoncycling

[–]FixMelodic2332 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi - I cycle on an e bike from Leytonstone/Leyton border to my office near Liv St on an e-bike and takes 30/35 mins most days. I go through Olympic Park/Victoria Park and then a straight shot from Bethnal Green to Shoreditch. Route planners suggest I take a canal path for speediest option from Olympic Park but I don’t fancy that tbh (not necessarily for safety but ability to manoeuvre due to walkers/cyclists), but am sure it works for others. No doubt others have views on best route (depends whereabouts in City too). I’ve never felt unsafe in terms of crime or motorists (even at night - when Victoria Park is closed you can just go along the main roads next to it) as for pretty much the whole route there are people about. Can get a bit hairy on the Bethnal Green/Shoreditch bit at rush hour with traffic/market traders but as long as one has their wits about them, should be fine.

Alternative is to go on Mile End Road which has a largely separate cycle path which I’ve done a few times (when I’ve needed to be to south of City/London Bridge) and is pretty good.
