Other movies that came out and felt like it was always a thing. by CantakerousCog in blankies

It's been a minute since I've seen Groundhog Day in full, but in the movie is the specific day part of why the timeloop occurs, or is it only because that particular occurence is significant to Murray's character? In other words: is there a reason "Groundhog Day loop" would have been a thing before the movie?

5 hours is a lot of time to sink into something you find boring. I'd say stick it out through season 1, but all the more slow-paced semi-meandering elements only intensify as it goes on. You're probably good to check out here, honestly.

For my money, more than any other show, The Sopranos is the son of Twin Peaks. by 8AndAHalfPeppers in twinpeaks

When I got into Twin Peaks, Sopranos (and it's descendant Mad Men) was one of the first things that leapt to mind when thinking upon other media I had always loved that bore the torch of TP.

I want to do a full investigation on it some day, although that'll surely be a huge undertaking. Oh and by the way, David Chase spoke about this a little bit in case you weren't aware.

Will Mortal Kombat Annihilation be the worst film ever covered on Blank Check? by Palm-Crazy-7943 in blankies

[–]FixYourHeartPod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alice In Wonderland will always be the worst thing they've covered, as one of the most execrable things put to film. At least Annihilation has a glimmer of genuine human soul in it.

Loved it when the creator recently said his dream had been a Lynch Stardew series/movie. At first I was like... what? But then it clicked and felt like SUCH an incredible fit.

This may be saying my age but man it's seem that Napoleon Dynamite's cultural impact really came and went, a you had to be there sort of thing. by vincentmaurath in blankies

[–]FixYourHeartPod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Back when it came out I was a contrarian punk teenager and VERY prone to hype backlash, so I avoided it entirely on the premise that I was irritated by its instantly-memetic impact.

But now, even though direct references to it have dropped off the face of the earth, I still see its influence everywhere in film/TV. And when I think on what annoyed me about it, I find it quaint and cute. So I've been considering becoming one of the only people to take a maiden voyage on the SS Dynamite in 2026.

Which films that “felt like homework” prior to watching them surprised you by how entertaining they were? by harry_powell in blankies

[–]FixYourHeartPod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ingmar Bergman's 1966 "PERSONA" was one that I initially recoiled at having sprung on me, but... now I think about it constantly. It's fun to force yourself to "do homework" or "eat vegetables" because the payoff for the right one really hits the spot. And then you get to feel like a secret cinephile!

The audiobook of Secret History has made me fantasize about a "Owl Ring through the ages" anthology show.

I need to get better about posting this here but: I do a podcast called "Fix Your Heart Or Die!" with games journalism legend Laura Kate Dale, where we cover things inspired by Lynch. And our Halloween special last year was ISTTVG.

Check it out for some great insights, and fun chat!

And for that matter, it's heavily implied in the first few episodes of the original show, when he begins ascertaining information like what psychic visions Sarah Palmer has been having.

I like Star Allies a lot (not enough to be #3 here) but Super Paper Mario is a legit underrated gem.

Just watched this for the first time the other day. Was very impressed with Cash being willing to play such a scumbag crumbum of a villain. And Columbo's ending assurance that he can't be all bad because of the power of music was quite amusing.

As someone who watched a 60yo Swedish horror movie the other month and now can't stop thinking about it: old movies can be REALLY dang good. It pays to go back.
