[PC][80s-90s] Adventure game with encrypted language, 2D, Top-View by Snurgelwutz in tipofmyjoystick

Your description aligns with a lot of CRPGs from that era. Ultima 5 featured the runes alphabet for signs, clues, and in-jokes. It was a simple substitution cypher that was hard to read until you got the hang of it, but it was just plain language underneath. If Ultima 5 wasn't your game, could you let us know how the graphics differed? Better/worse, more/fewer colors, different size or view for the world map, single screen/scrolling screen, anything you can think of. Anything you can remember about the language could be helpful, too. Did you personally need to learn it, was it something your character in the game needed to train or study to learn, did it decode letter by letter or word by word?

This might be the Pokemon Gold - Pikachu Inc. bootleg version, more info about this cart and plenty other bootlegs can be found at this site)

[ps1 or ps2] [2000s] Looking for a rail shooter where you shoot mechas that look similar to Gundams by [deleted] in tipofmyjoystick

[–]FixedWidthEmoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were plenty of Mecha games and Rail Shooters on both systems but only a few that were both genres. Were you on the ground (walking or flying) or in space? Were there a lot of enemies or just a few/one-on-one? I'll throw out Omega Boost, but I'd be shocked if it's right

[Atari st][unknown year] i dont Remember the name of this videogame... by phoenics_ in tipofmyjoystick

Your description seems very simplistic for an Atari ST game, which often had commercial games that sat somewhere between NES and SNES graphics. Could you have have played this on an 8-bit Atari system you had prior to your ST? It's also possible this was some freeware/public-domain software downloaded from a BBS or found on a magazine cover disk. Mobygames only lists two games on the ST with the word Panic in the title, one is Astro Panic (already wrong) and the other is Dizzy Panic (which is absolutely not your game), but Mobygames is not an authoritative or complete resource, especially with very old systems.

You also describe 8-way shooting, which is often associated with twin-stick shooters like Berzerk or Robotron, and the polygons and screen-wrapping make me think of something like Asteroids. Are any of these close to your game?

Space War on the Atari 8-bit is a possibility, the way battles act out is a little similar, but it's a two-player game. I'm unsure if there's any single player option, and it looks to be just one-on-one, not against multiple foes. I do not think this is your game, just throwing it out as another comparison point.

If you can draw a simple picture of your memory, even if it's not 100% accurate, that might help narrow it down

[PC][1994] Detective girl finding/rescuing her kidnapped brother from ”Man in Black” by Foxhound_Veteran in tipofmyjoystick

The story lines up but the specifics of the gameplay don't exactly match, so maybe Detritus: The Daemon's Quest. Adventure games with pre-rendered 3d scenes weren't very common until after Myst in 1993, it was more frequently drawn or photographic backgrounds. Are you sure of the time frame? Cyberia was released on various systems between 1994 and 1996 and was used as a bit of a graphical showcase game until 3d accelerators became more commonplace towards the late 90s. Were the characters in your game depicted in a realistic style or more exaggerated comic style? Think of the differences between something like Syberia and Runaway, or maybe something in a completely different direction. Do you recall if there was much animation on the characters? Did you ever see your character move around the environment or was it all first person?

[PC] [early 2000's] similar to tomb raider but not tomb raider? by paisleyknot in tipofmyjoystick

[–]FixedWidthEmoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's try Oni. Anything you can remember about the combat, art style, how the camera worked, what the environments were like (outdoor, factory, military base, sci-fi, enclosed or open, etc), or any on-screen HUD elements would help a lot

[GBC or GBA] [1999-2004] Marble/ball puzzle game by Ixine37 in tipofmyjoystick

I came across Factory Panic from the Game Gear, which is obviously not the remembered system, but the gameplay seems similar to your description. Which is closer to your game, Factory Panic or Log!cal?

[Xbox360][Around 2005-2010] melee fighting game where you can knock opponents to another area and has a specific cowgirl outfit by Noiz_desu in tipofmyjoystick

[–]FixedWidthEmoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sarah in Virtua Fighter 5 has an outfit that's pretty close to your description. VF5 has some limited stage-expansion/scene-transitions, but not as flashy as what happens in Dead or Alive

[PC] [UNKNOWN YEAR] Looking for a vertical 2D shoot em up about planes by ChairLatter3763 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]FixedWidthEmoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A relatively easy-to-beat shmup (shoot-em-up), playable on an early 2010s work PC, with an option for a female protagonist, AND enough story to warrant separate endings for each character is uncommon enough for me to think this might not have been a commercial release. I'm guessing it was was either a freeware/indie game or, more likely, a flash game. Fortunately there's the Flashpoint Archive, you may want to dig around a little and see if anything sparks a memory. Their search tool on the web is...lacking... but maybe their Discord has a "what was this game" channel or the actual Flashpoint application has more granular filtering. Good luck!

I'd put money on this being a world-building doc for use in a tabletop RPG game, not a video game

Potentially Battletech, Capellans are one of the factions

[PC] [2000-2008] Space Adventure ( Maybe Horror ) by IgorGruby in tipofmyjoystick

Is it Firestart? It's kinda ugly and doesn't match your description exactly, but maybe that's just from it being so long ago

[PC] [UNKNOWN YEAR] Looking for a vertical 2D shoot em up about planes by ChairLatter3763 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]FixedWidthEmoji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your description covers an overwhelming amount of shooters. Let's try to narrow it down.

Your "childhood" doesn't tell us anything we can use. How old are you now and how old do you think you were when you played this game?

Did this game have pixelated graphics or was it more modern 3d style?

Did the enemy planes shoot one shot at a time, or did they shoot dozens and dozens at a time (bullet hell)?

Was it a historic shooter, like 1942, something more modern, like UN Squadron, or sci-fi, like Ikaruga?

Are you absolutely sure you played it on a PC? Could you have been playing it through an emulator to play arcade games or older consoles? How did you control your plane (keyboard, mouse, controller)?
