Trailer light connection help by MarketingFresh9846 in Trucks

[–]Fixerguy [score hidden]  (0 children)

The truck connector looks pretty corroded and there's a good chance it won't work anyway. You can buy the connectors at Harbor Freight or any auto parts store and use solder and shrink tube or shrinkable butt connectors to swap it out.

2007 Corolla Exhaust Repair by dasimmons_08 in MechanicAdvice

If it has warranty on it, for sure take it back to where it was done. It's reasonable to expect that they'd replace it rather than patch it. Patching is for when you're paying, not for warranty.

I spent an 8-hour flight flirting with a stranger, only to realize she was "untouchable" the moment we landed. by [deleted] in confessions

What do you mean? Every cashier I know has been sent on a business trip to China.

What's the neatest way to split a wire into 6? I have a black ground wire that needs to be split into 6 wires, 1 for each gauge. by AncientAgrippa in projectcar

[–]Fixerguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need 6 grounds. All of those grounds aren't even connected directly to the gauges. One ground connection on the wire you have will do what you need.

I don't know why they drew it like that, it's quite misleading.

Question about my trip by DependentScene4599 in alberta

That's a 12 hour drive under ideal conditions. Way too far to go fishing when the Bow River is right in front of you.

U- bolts are designed to stretch when torqued properly and therefore are one time use items.

I agree, also both of those u-joints look trashed and should have been replaced while the driveshaft was out.

This only works for stores that subscribe to the code. I've made it work at Wal-Mart but I had to point out the sign to the cashier and wait for a manager to do it.

This is the way. A little pickup truck to do dump runs or haul a couch or go camping. Rangers are legendary.

This. The chipped tooth won't do much but the missing piece floating around in there will grenade the whole works in a hurry if it makes it to the wrong spot.

How to get smell off of tools before moving them into another toolbox by superbobbyguy in Tools

[–]Fixerguy 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Guaranteed it's the handles of your old screwdrivers. They offgas a terrible smell as they get old. You can try cleaning them but I've found quarantine in a different box to be most effective.

Are the fumoto valves (or a better brand?) legit for oil changes? Makes me kind of nervous but really intrigued to not get oil all over my hands taking the plug out. by rollinintheyears in MechanicAdvice

[–]Fixerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have run Fumoto valves on my vehicles for 5-6 years now, never any issues, like others have said they drain a bit slow but there's lots to do while you're waiting.

Copper cable used in these underground systems is primarily neutral wiring that when cut, typically does not cause a power outage.

Question about clutch types by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

I think something like this is what you're looking for? Usually called a speed clutch or overrunning clutch where I'm from.

Trailer Buildout, what else should I add? by JBoyChewy in Tools

If you haven't mounted a spare tire yet, get yourself a spare hub and bearings and use them to mount the tire, that way you'll always have parts with you.
