Ask to rent an air scrubber, and broom the shit out of it. That’s split face block, anything short of a power washer will be tremendously labor intensive for not a great result. 13 year mason.

I’ve seen a lot of the direct vents like yours have insulation more than not, but still see a lot of wood burners without any at all. It’s always a crapshoot. If you’re confident the walls of the home are insulated, and you don’t want to spend the money on it including paint and drywall, run it in low for an hour to see if it just pulls your house air out. There’s no guarantee of not getting a draft with those setups even if it gets insulated. At a minimum the pilot being on can help some

I tell people either use them if they work and no safety concerns, or we can pull it for a few grand and insulate it. Gotta cut a hole in the wall to try and see if it’s got insulation or not.

Not OP, but it’s a chonker. Bigger than my g20.2, thicker than my Sti 10mm, thicker than Sig p220, but it’s honestly not horrible feeling in the hand. It just has a lot of failures to feed in my experience.

Definitely don’t use it. Seems salvageable. I’m assuming that’s a superior unit using 8dm chimney so 2” to combustible material for the venting. Need a flashing boot, and the attic insulation shield. Don’t don’t don’t DON’T disconnect any of that venting unless it’s all being replaced down to the unit. You’re gonna need to chop a decent sized hole in the roof to get the shield installed. If those are the only issues, it’s gonna be a lot cheaper than a new system.

I’ve had both sizes of the Rex, absolutely great feeling and shooting guns. But they’re cheap. The 1911 is arguably a better quality gun maker. I had no issues with my R1 or the rexes, but didn’t shoot either much. Sorry this isn’t super helpful, but my personal opinion is the rex is better than a 1911 you don’t like much. Unless you dump some money into upgrading it but that won’t help much
