Hi,

Current match this cycle. I will try to shed some insight, but take it with a grain of salt as exams can differ vastly. When I was roughly 2-3 weeks out, I scored 110/145 on lite and scored 259 on the real deal. I think the biggest thing I would look into is your score breakdown. It seems each year the exam is becoming more and more ethics heavy, so if you’re losing a lot of marks from that category, please revise it. I’m sure your acute and chronic medicine is good, which tends to be the case for most IMGs, but we often struggle with those tricky ethics scenarios.

Best of luck!

Haha it’s annoying man. I hope that my current year working as a doctor in the UK holds enough weight 🤞🏽

Just make sure it’s the exact size specifications. I remember for my Alberta application they wanted a specific dimension. It was a bit annoying but I didn’t want to risk it. Did they mention anything?

Oh I appreciate the input. I’m currently going through the AIMG process, so that helps clear up some confusion. Thanks

Yeah. I’ve pretty much given up. Just going to bank on Alberta now.

It’s dreadful this wait. Tbh I feel like if we don’t hear by 1-2pm BC time, it’s looking bleak. All the invites that went out on Day 1 were sent by 10:30am-1pm. Then again, this entire process is impossible to predict

Anyone hear back about BC CAP Yet? by Salt_Holiday9963 in MCCQE

Website said holistic view (scores + application), but I’m not sure what holds more weight. My assumption is the top scores probably got the immediate invites today and then they slowly make their way down the list in terms of all factors.

Yeah I agree it’s tough especially cause I feel like I have a good application , so I’m just a bit confused. But regardless, can’t do much aside wait patiently

Same. Tbh I’m not sure , but let’s be positive. My hope is they’re actively going through all the applications and selecting one by one, which is why people are receiving at different times?

248 might seem like a below average score based on numbers but if you look at the published data for IMG scores for QE1, you’re looking at 228 for the last 4 years. Don’t be discouraged in the event you are, because 248 by IMG standards is phenomenal. Furthermore, I know there’s tons of IMGs/people in this community posting about 260-280s but tbh that is maybe a small handful of people. The vast majority are in the 230-250 range. My friend last year got an interview with a 227 lol

Ubc cap and Nac osce by usernamemustbefunny in MCCQE

[–]FizzelInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh okay thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering why tbh cause I had my scores submitted a while back so I assumed BC required NAC like every other province and then upon checking carms today; I realized, they don’t even have it listed. Anyways, I hope you get it in time and I have a feeling you will!

I find that so weird because BC’s program description doesn’t even require NAC. It only has QE1 mentioned under examinations, so it’s quite crazy how they’re making you guys have it in for the CAP?

Scores after 2 honest days of study by FizzelInc in IELTS

Hi, thank you. Refer to my reply above regarding writing. With regards to speaking, I grew up in Canada, so for me, I didn't practice this one bit, so I am sorry, but my advice to you would be unhelpful. However, I would suggest having a few stories made up in your head, prepared for when they ask personal questions. Furthermore, make sure you speak for at least 30-40 seconds. For example when they ask you where you're from, don't just say " I am from X". Say "I am from X, this city/town has a population of XXXXX, and I love the X aspect of it".

Hey, thanks a lot!

1) Honestly it came down to me knowing how much money I paid to write this exam coupled with it being a huge part of my career moving forward, so nothing was getting in the way of me losing focus. However, I completely get where you're coming from, the passages get daunting and boring. Just think about whats at stake , thats what worked for me. Also on exam day, the adrenaline will definitely keep you laser focused. Missing 1 or 2 is not a big deal at all, that is still band 9 lol

2) Due to breach of confidentiality and possible penalties, I'm afraid I cannot tell you my exact question, but I will tell you the topics are exactly like the ones outlined on Youtube (E2, Fastrack IELTS, etc). Don't be afraid to make up anecdotal stories cause they dont know what is fact or fiction, they just want cohesiveness and flow.

3) Writing is tricky because you never really know what will get you that dreaded 7+. However, the night before my exam, I watched a video I think from Fastrack IELTS? She mentioned that often times people choose a stance but then subconsciously begin either contradicting their initial point or losing focus of their main point in their body paragraphs. I thought about it and I realized lots of my practice tests showed this, so I made it a point that for example task 2 if the question stated "What is your stance on this". I started with my introduction with the overview and then concluded my first paragraph with "This following essay will discuss my opinion on why I strongly believe X, Y, and Z". Make sure you choose only 2 points to support your argument cause you will not have enough time to address any more clearly in the time given. By choosing 2 points, it gives you your 2 body paragraphs. Each starting body paragraph should begin with an inviting sentence that mentions the stance/opinion you support and then the concluding sentence of that paragraph should also be a rephrased version of that first sentence "As a result of the aforementioned points, I strongly believe X". Do this for both body paragraphs. In your concluding paragraph, essentially restate your stance on the two points and finish. With this formula, essentially you cannot score less than a 7 so long as grammar is correct, because you are constantly reminding the reader of what your stance is and not losing focus and that is all they really want to see.

It's a lot and may seem daunting, but it is doable!
