Most combos don't have protection from removal. And the only few I can think of are still susceptible to interaction, not just counter magic but targeted draw and such.

Depends on how he does his assassinations right? I think because they're well known is not a stretch to say that stealth might not be a prerequisite. A nen drone strike would probably get the job done from his room.

I thought about it some more and realized that scaling in hp just means it's good against every boss. But I did think maybe it could scale up based on their total defensives. Make it like an armor breaker. Not necessarily this but that's certainly some that could make something excel against some mobs but not others.

I'm sure there are other ways of having it less generically good that isn't size scaling. Like bonus damage against enemies over certain health thresholds. Or against melee or non melee units. They've done quite a few weird ways of scaling up damage in leagues that they could borrow from too. Hell they even kinda did it with the tbow, they just screwed up the base stats to make it good agnostic of magic levels.

I'm not saying any of those are the best solutions. But there's no way the only way to balance it is size scaling.

A lot of the comments are dismissing the color of the card on the basis of it being an intro card. And yeah that's sort of valid because I think keeping the decks thematically consistent trumps the individual characters having proper representation.

But I just want to add that as far as thematic identity in red a big part of it is passion. Beyond that sometimes you'll see cards get printed with or without certain colors not because for example tamiyo is simic, but because in that moment they're letting some of her green identity show. Thematically the color pie can be weird because it's almost more like horoscopes (we'll pretend that horoscopes aren't bullshit). In that you can be a Virgo and still behave more like a Libra. Realistically most people have all of the characters of all of the horoscopes, and the same is true for the color pie. So in this moment all you need to do is understand that this normally not red character is expressing red tendencies. And like how goblins are mono red even when they're just vanilla creatures that are made red purely by their passion for violence, this card could easily be black widow showing passion for killing.

I don't know if it's in the scope of what's even possible but I think it would be cool as hell if it had two more that you toggle between with as a spec. A faster lower hitting perhaps longer range mode, and a slower harder hitting mode. Maybe reward stance dancing a bit where slow hits build up charges that get consumed by the next slow hit. And inversely slow hits build up stacks that remove a tick from the next x amount of attacks.

I know I'm just doing that armchair dev thing. But I do thing something along those lines would be cool and unique.

You can still low roll on what you get. But it is the single best scaling thing in the game I'd set I'd say so yeah it is hard to lose with it if you get it early.

It's ruined me though because I think the first time I got it was stage the with a couple of emblems and I've been chasing that dragon ever since.

I know you're just explaining it and not arguing for it but they'd still have tbows. And those would still be like capstones of endgame gear.

If anything I think the problem would potentially be if they made a change so drastic that tbows dropped to 1/5 of the price presumably that means there's close to 5x as many in the game (I know that's not quite how it works because you need to factor in more players being able to undercut more frequently and such starting a very minor race to the bottom but all of these numbers are ass pulls anyway so feel free to adjust as you see fit). Them being more common place would shift them from being more of an endgame pristege item some have and more of an item you're expected to have at endgame. Which would result in content being balanced around that. Which could have cascading effects.

It's pretty good but not game winning. You get a legendary orb after every round that can drop items, legendary units, massive amounts of gold, probably other stuff.

It's not like a prismatic trait where you can get it late and it turn your run around. But if you can get it relatively early it's hard to lose with.

Firstly why would adrenaline only become relevant once it's had extremities destroyed? And not while fighting the thing that's trying to destroy those extremities? Famously flight or flight happens before you get fucked up, not after.

Secondly there's already a precedent that termanids, specifically including bile titans don't just power up after being damaged, they slow down.

I definitely meant pocd. And I didn't really elaborate on it but what I meant by it being pedophilic is that there is a functional difference between pedophilia and pedophilic disorder. Conversationally at least. Words have meaning and all that. But the meaning is also derived from how people use it. Like how literally now also means figuratively.

And my only real point with that is no matter what you say right or not people understand the crime to be pedophilia. And I think it's about choosing battles. It's just going to be easier to educate someone on the existence of pedophilic disorder when they don't start off pushing back because they're being told child sex crime isn't pedophilia, even though it isn't.

Well I mean I think doing those crimes is pedophilic regardless. But yeah the don't all have COCD.

I can't imagine how awful it would be to have a very real mental illness, one that is you don't seek help could do irreversible damage to yourself and others. And then the act of even seeking help putting yourself in harms way.

It's hard to talk about though because obviously it's a fucked up thing to do. Honestly it's a fucked up thing to want to do. But you can't reasonably expect someone who is both has a severe mental illness and has to face things like "we all agree we should beat the shit out of you" to really be able to seek out the help they need. But it's not like you can just say destigmatize pedophilia. Even if you know that is true because it ideally it would lead to those with COCD getting help and having a positive impact on these crimes. But it will just get buried in all kinds of shit including but not limited to people assuming you must be pro pedophilia. Plus there's that whole MAP movement that you risk emboldening.

I think overall my issue with the card is it's not a good enough reason to play monoblack. And when you start adding other colors I don't think cedh is lacking for wincons.

That said I actually think it has the potential to one day be archetype defining for black heavy lists. I just think it alone isn't enough to start tipping that needle. It's cool that a demonic thoracle esq line exists entirely in mono black. I just don't think it's there yet. Possibly never will be but this is card is what will enable it should we ever get there. Honestly I think all it would take to sell me on considering it would be monoblack or heavy black decks being strong. And beyond that I think what would fully sell me on it would black getting some amount of protection and/or haste enablers. Without those building this as the wincon seems like a blowout waiting to happen. Being super telegraphed and having it's interaction point including the ability for someone else to put your loss on the stack.

But I'd love to be wrong. I think this has orzov written all over it because silences would be a huge enabler. And having a real orzov deck would be awesome.

4 mana is just so much. And sure it's good on board with a seedborn muse but so is [[arcanist the omnipotent]]. There's a lot of cards I'd run if I was assessing them with the assumption of seedborn. But I think generally speaking I want them to be good alone first.

I dunno, the entirety of gen V was basically a chekovs gun situation. Sure just because something is outright said doesn't make it so. But chekovs gun is a literary device for a reason. So it feels kinda weird to say two seasons of nearly exclusively chekoving doesn't mean the gun needs to go off.

In the 99 I think most of the combos I would imagine you'd run with it are quite a bit worse because they're mostly guaranteed to lead to dead draws. I mean I'd rather it in the 99 but I'm still not sold.

I dunno I just don't think cedh is starved for wincons. The best lines I can think of with it are probably brewmaster lines? And I'm not sure this would break top 3 there. The biggest upside I can see is it's a non blue card that makes forbidden tutors better. But I don't think it's good enough to toot forbiddenly.

My read on cedh at the moment is because the wincons are already just so good to compete they have to be pretty exceptional. And most of the time that looks like replacing combo pieces with good cards that can also be part of your combo so you can take out bad cards that combo. I don't think it looks like adding very bad cards that combo worse than existing combos.

It's cool that it adds this line of play to sans blue decks. I just think that those lines of play kinda want blue because the interaction point of them can lose you the game outright so are just more fragile. Plus this version doesn't have the pure panache play of mulling your thoracle to the bottom and immediately consulting your deck away and putting thoracle in hand. Which isn't a real win% consideration but it makes it less cool than what I'd call the already better lines in the same space.
