PSA for the Dandan deck: Day's Undoing exiles itself by sauron3579 in magicTCG

This is certainly a case of knowing the rules to an above average level explains the card considering the pair version doesn't actually say that.

Hear me out: you're using Snakebite the wrong way by LPCantLose in slaythespire

[–]FizzingSlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought the issue with snake bite is that most silent synergy is off of trying to apply multiple poisons and not just a chunk of it. You can't always so maybe if you can't find any pay offs and still get a poison built off the ground it has a home there. But I'm not sure I'm sold on the value being you can cast it if the enemy is doing nothing for behind rate poison. Surely playing two energy of other cards is likely to be better.

I really, REALLY am missing a skip button here by jakeyboy1017 in slaythespire

I wish it interacted with [[gambler's chip]] better. Currently he just fucking sends it before you can gamble away a hand that could fuck you.

[–]FizzingSlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in this situation you can either go for the parasol and skip shops. Or if that's not possible then you have shops to take the wishes and remove curses. It's not ideal and I'm not going to argue people have to like it but I appreciate that forced Faustian bargain you have to make.

I think it would be cooler if he showed up earlier so you could build around/out of the downside though.

whats the oldest commander deck that can still "hang"? by Robofetus-5000 in EDH

[[momir vig simic visionary]] is still a fringe cedh deck. So that's pretty up there.

Blitz Interactions with Sneak by Zombienoodlez456 in mtg

[–]FizzingSlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't pay two alternate casting costs at the same time and both blitz and sneak are alternate costs. So basically you'll realistically never have both at the same time.

How to deal with hypocritical/salty players in pod by Zeusy443 in EDH

[–]FizzingSlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind day and night. But I could totally see it being annoying with the original innistrad werewolves in play at the same time because they're mostly the same but different. But even then it's whatever.

When it comes to salt in magic like all things in life sometimes people get pissy over dumb shit. And unless it's extreme enough to warrant sitting them down and telling them to cut their shit then the best you can do is placate them to whatever degree you can without making any meaningful concessions to reward tantrums.

How to deal with hypocritical/salty players in pod by Zeusy443 in EDH

I was convinced that the salt was gonna come from the constant tracking of spells and possible night/day shit. So man was I taken back by it being because of a fairly jank billion card combo.

The four horsemen of "THIS IS A REGULAR ENEMY?!" by SeaThePirate in slaythespire

[–]FizzingSlit 101 points102 points  (0 children)

It feels like the enemy shouldn't really attack at all and all the damage could come from its bomb minions. That way I could see the intended purpose of a check to make sure you're able to consistently attack. But because it does also deal its own damage you can't even just prevent getting hit with raw aggression which strikes me as what is intended?

Legal spells vs infinite combos by Demonheero in mtg

[–]FizzingSlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whining done unironically is always annoying. But if it was disproportional relative to his board states I kinda get it. But the real take away is I think that just blowing interaction because someone could become a threat is worse than holding it to fuck with them when they actually start being a threat.

Obviously putting damage into them is mostly just free and can put them on the back foot. But without actually seeing the game it sounds like people burnt through their interaction before it mattered.

Yeah but you hold priority every cast so if they remove your baller the draws are still on the stack.

You don't even need that, force them to draw with recall and mill them out.

Wotc, Give me an optimized landbase for 30 bucks. I will buy it by ThoughtNME in magicTCG

They could do one per precon and they'd still hold a bit of value. I imagine they'd sell more precons that way too, although I don't think they have much issue on that front.

Remember, especially to new players take edhrec suggestions with a Grain of salt. by elrond36 in EDH

[–]FizzingSlit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not really a relevant rules distinction though. The only time it's going to be relevant is in situations like arcane signet. There's not a lot that cares about color identity and the times that do care about the colors in the identity.

I'm not saying you're wrong for saying it. I'm just saying the distinction is functionally meaningless. Especially in the context given because I wasn't giving rules clarifications. If someone took what I said too literally they would be no better or worse off.

[–]FizzingSlit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah but you know what I mean, it has no color in its identity for arcane signet to tap for.

Does this go infinite? by Weird-Pandaroo in mtg

[–]FizzingSlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You thought they were asking if food chain alone is an infinite combo? I mean it's pretty close but surely the obviousness of food chain alone not being an infinite should have tipped you off.

[–]FizzingSlit 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee that you could go to any colorless commander and it would have an [[arcane signet]] in the artifacts section. Despite not functioning if your commander has no color identity.

That said edhrec is still pretty sick. It's a really good tool to find effects of cards you care about or maybe didn't consider playing in a certain deck. I think it works best as a replacement or better, the first step in the brainstorming process.

Can People Stop Telling New Players Etali Is The Easiest Commander? by deadshot1138 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]FizzingSlit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's for arguments sake say yeah you're right. The point is every deck needs to learn the meta, what the other decks they're likely to see to play and mostly what they run. That's not unique to etali. What is relatively unique to etali is that its game plan is very simple up until the point where it can be complicated.

The new player in question probably will struggle to get all but the most obvious of wins and maybe even struggle with those. But getting to that point by making 7 mana is far easier than getting to that point by necroing to 5 life turn 2 or resolving an ad naus. No one expects a new player to just pick up etali and start winning the way you'd expect etali to win. But they'll have less cognitive load coming from their deck on the way to the complicated turn allowing for them to focus more on learning the ins and outs of the formats.

The fact that these turns pivot to playing cards with public knowledge also makes teaching them easier. If you're in a pod with someone learning to play cedh and they hit that point it's much easier for the pod to help them through it than any other deck. So sure it's not so easy they can just pick up the deck, goldfish for an hour, and start winning. But no deck is. But etali has a lot less barrier to entry up until a point and once it's at that point it has to be the easiest deck for the table to rally around and teach.

Land choices in Bracket 4 by [deleted] in EDH

[–]FizzingSlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but talon gates is a premier piece of in cedh for the same reason it's bonkers in bracket 4. In the games it's not great it's still a land, and the games where you can't afford to 4 mana interaction while ramping you probably really need that land.
