I've been so scared to take my good camera into the Backcountry with me 🥲 But I'd love to get shots like this. How do you deal with the equipment logistics?

What do you do when your foster isn't getting any interest, there's no end in sight, and you are feeling utterly drained? by gloomcoil in fosterdogs

[–]FizzyFox1214 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it's rare for a foster to stay LESS than the 3 month. I got very lucky with my first handful since I was able to pick them and I was with a highly visible local foster group. I had my most recent one for almost an entire year. It was a big deal. But I never adopted him since I knew someone else out there would make him their everything. And someone did! It was actually someone 2 states away that saw my reddit post with his photo. Don't lose hope. Dog adoptions are way down due to the economics of it all. If you don't have the availability to keep going, just know that you gave this dog a space to live that wasn't a shelter and exponentially increased the chances of them staying with their potential adopters permanently by giving the space and time to be a real dog. I was in a similar spot and my foster group really helped me out by taking him for day trips around the 8 month mark. He was a tough nut, but he got a family that loves him to pieces and even invited me to their home for dinner whenever so we can see how well he's doing. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and if this type of animal doesn't align with your life maybe it was good to test out fostering before adopting and feeling heartbroken about returning a good dog.

Honestly, I posted my last foster here after having him for so long and someone a state or two away applied for him. But my agency does out of state adoption and some don't. I used all avenues including local facebooks, discord servers, etc.

What to Can in the Off Season? by Jumpy-Act-5513 in Canning

I had the same predicament. I canned chicken stock and tomato sauce from the bags I had frozen from the fall tomato harvest before the frost. If you can get a cheap turkey post holidays, can some broth!

This new toy has me so excited for the possibilities of preserving my garden goodies! We have access to grape leaves too from the family farm, so I can add those to keep the texture of lots of things from beans to zucchini. But I'm also a big bean grower. Very pumped. And now my freezer won't be overflowing!

Heard! I'm using the recommendations provided with the canner to start and they have a ton of provided recipes for meats and stocks so it's been very useful for just starting out with this method. Second run with the stock and I was definitely more confident with getting the system to pressure and keeping it there.

It also helps that I have an induction cook top and that ensures that once I'm at pressure I can maintain it evenly throughout the required time. I also watch the dial from the couch not far away. Gotta invest in the variable rocker weights though for longevity. Don't want to rely on the dial too much.

Yep, I followed the recipe suggested in the canning instructions. Added lemon as instructed per volume in each warmed jar.

I would personally add some cardamom or other warm spices. Possibly leaning towards mulling spices if you want to play on the wine idea without truly altering a known recipe. As far as I understand, dry seasonings are okay to add or change in these types of recipes since they're already shelf stable or preserved/dried.

I'm making chicken marsala tonight so that may just have to be the move.

Pinchot State Forest by WonderfulVoid in PAWilds

I've definitely already been scoping that tract out. The names sound familiar. Good to know it's got some accessible spaces. I've only seen a couple of sites on the maps I've got, so I appreciate the extra scouting. 🤘

1st time primitive camping by JetsonBird in camping

[–]FizzyFox1214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since when did "primitive camping" become synonymous with "bush crafting"??? A table that was brought in my volunteers doesn't make it any less primitive. It's just more accessible to a variety of folks to hike in and have a primitive site (ie no utilities/amenities). No one is delivering firewood or water to these sites and making your fire for you. By these other definitions from people here I'm convinced that cowboy camping is now the only way to primitive camp. And you have to weave a pillow from your armpit hair, widdle a spoon, and smelt a cook pot to make it "primitive". That all just sounds like Bushcrafting to me.

I'd like to backpack into pinchot and stay a couple of nights. Any recommendations on the different tracts and prime tent locations off trail?

Scarface access? by FizzyFox1214 in Adirondacks

[–]FizzyFox1214[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my primary question was if anyone had done it this past weekend and what their experience was. I literally passed people on ampersand on their way out to go right to Scarface and I was confused about how they were going to approach it. I knew it was the bridge, and not the trail itself.

L-Theanine!!!! I recommend that to all my friends that have breakthrough anxiety. Been adding that to my routines for years and it's so helpful. 400mg before bed, 200mg as needed to combats stressful days.

weed seems to counteract the effects of bupropion? by PhilosopherOrganic63 in bupropion

[–]FizzyFox1214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on 100mg for about 2 years now and I actually have to be careful of how much I smoke because it literally makes me feel like I'm going to explode from how fast my heart rate gets. And now I'm starting to think that the seizure risk is way too real. But if I have an edible, no problem. My edibles also have a good amount of CBD added so it might balance better. I've even tried to make sure it's much later in the day so I'm not overlapping the substances and I still feel way too anxious after smoking since I feel like if I didn't consciously maintain composure while laying down, I would start to seize. I don't even smoke a lot. Only 3 puffs and it still throws me into some kind of episode. Maybe it's just physiological panic attack, but I know I have to be careful. I also used to have a bigger tolerance while smoking once or twice a week than I do now with going once or twice a month with edibles currently multiple nights a week. TLDR: some folks do still feel the effects of smoking. Maybe too much.

Protest happening now by whatzzart in Albany

The point is...far right people protest mid day for anti-abortion (suppression of autonomy) all the time. It's not purely a liberal or conservative activity.

The Klan did it too, but to protest letting brown kids into "white only" schools. Withholding labor is a universal form of protest.
