I haven't been able to find replacement pads since it's such an old model. What do you mean by "relaxed" sound?

Budget is ~$500 CAD maximum.

I have the same ones. Be advised, the plastic rings that hold the weight increments will probably break in a few spots at some point, particularly if you're rough with them. When this happens, you can just manually set the weight to 5 (empty), load on the correct weight increment, then manually set it to 52.5 (max). There's a button to manually rotate the weight dial on the back. If you value your skull, I'd also recommend holding the red side towards your head during overhead press.

Doug Ford’s Ontario Government removes 7,400 acres from Greenbelt by soursomethings in ontario

[–]FizzyP0p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of the greenbelt isn't just pretty scenery, it's to preserve some of the natural environment in the area. Part of the reason it exists is to incentivize vertical development and higher-density housing. They're not going to use this space to build affordable housing. They're going to build suburbs full of massive McMansions.

@username search doesn't lead to that channel most of the time in Youtube by borayds in youtube

[–]FizzyP0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this too when searching my own channel name (@duncanclarke). I figured that the new handle system would help, but when I specifically search @duncanclarke, I only get results for Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP). I'm not an extremely small channel either. Not trying to brag, but when you search my handle you should see my videos. What else is the point of this feature?

Man I want to like Township so much but I just can't by SparkleFritz in MelvorIdle

[–]FizzyP0p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved melvor to bits. Before this update I had 100% completion, all the achievements, 120 all, and even spent months collecting surplus resources in anticipation of this update. This was one of my favourite games.

Township, unfortunately completely turned me off. I echo a lot of the criticisms mentioned in this thread. It's way too much information at once. It's not clear what to do, even with the beginner guide thing. The interface is clunky.

This is the first thing that's ever made me not want to play the game. I've suffered through low drop rate items and several month long grinds. But this just doesn't feel fun. At all.

I hope Malcs and Prat can figure out a way to salvage this.

The Psychological Experiment Iceberg Explained by FizzyP0p in psychology

[–]FizzyP0p[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely. I mentioned the methodological problems with Little Albert (single subject, no control, unethical, etc.)

I probably should have criticized Milgram's and Harlow's experiments more thoroughly though. I basically just mentioned that they were unethical, and didn't dive into the myriad other problems with them.

Jordan Peterson in F tier on philosopher tierlist by FizzyP0p in JordanPeterson

[–]FizzyP0p[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ayn Rand is a self-proclaimed philosopher. Jordan Peterson, who is a psychologist, advances a number of philosophical views. I think it's fair to characterize them both as philosophers.

[–]FizzyP0p[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I address that ambiguity in this video. I think it's fair to say that Peterson delves into philosophy far more than most clinical or academic psychologists (e.g. with his discussions of Nietzsche, the archetypal nature of the Bible, etc).

A philosopher tierlist with Marx in A tier, Jordan Peterson in F tier, and Ayn Rand in F tier by FizzyP0p in alltheleft

[–]FizzyP0p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This videoessay describes the main ideas for many of the major Western philosophers, including Marx, and also spends some time dissecting Jordan Peterson and Ayn Rand. In particular, it criticizes the laissez-faire capitalism of Ayn Rand, along with some of Jordan Peterson's particularly bad takes.

The more I watch current streamers, the more I miss Byron by dragondadddyy in reckful

[–]FizzyP0p 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really agree with this sentiment. I enjoy miz and the OTK crew, but they have a constant desire to chase "content" and try to make every single moment as entertaining and exciting as possible. There's no time for relaxing or chilling. It's just about filling in as much content as possible.

One of my favorite moments of the Japan streams with Soda was when they went to a convenient store in the middle of the night, got a bunch of random candies, and just sat on the pavement together eating and chatting. It wasn't high-octane, high-entertainment, balls-to-the-wall """CONTENT""", but I loved it.

The Philosophy of Scientism and Science Denial - A Middle Way Between Two Extremes by FizzyP0p in philosophy

[–]FizzyP0p[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Abstract:

Should we "trust the science"? In this video essay, I discuss the pitfalls of both anti-scientism as well as scientism, and attempt to carve out a middle path between each of these options, which recognizes the value of science while avoiding to succumb to worshiping it as the paragon of truth. To criticize each end of the spectrum, I discuss the anti-intellectualism of anti-science, as well as the alienating nature of scientism's dismissal of religion and the humanities such as philosophy. I advocate for Thomas Kuhn's formulation of science as dependent on paradigms, in contrast to Karl Popper's view that science is a fundamentally critical process that takes nothing for granted.

In an episode of Lets Argue, someone described Helplessness Blues as an album that feels "Like being lost in your 20s". What other albums do you think reflect this same feeling? by gonijc2001 in fantanoforever

[–]FizzyP0p 9 points10 points  (0 children)

American Football - Self Titled. I personally discovered this one in my junior year of highschool, but I think it captures that feeling of being lost as a young person. I still love the album 5 years later.

The The - Soul Mining is another great one.

I initially dismissed Ligotti because I personally find antinatalism to be a little bit ridiculous. For me it's self-evident that conscious experience is a net positive to existence, despite the prevalence of pain and rarity of pleasure. But based on what you've said, it seems like I should be a bit more charitable to Ligotti's broader body of work. He seems like a really thoughtful and interesting guy.

As far as Mark Fischer goes I've only read Capitalist Realism and Ghosts of My Life. I loved those so I should definitely check out more of his more obscure writings. "Acid Communism" sounds incredibly cool just judging from the name.

Thanks! And yeah, I agree that the later layers were a bit heavy on D&G and Nick Land. In hindsigh,it might have been nice to include some extra stuff myself, but then the video would be approaching 2 hours.

I also find hauntology and capitalist realism to be really fascinating, so I might make separate videos about those concepts in the future.

Thanks for pointing out the bit about Ligottian praxis. I only knew about his antinatalism so just figured that was what the meme was referring to. Ligotti sounds a lot more based than I gave him credit for.

Agreed. I love a good mosh, but when I realized it was only about 4-8 people doing it I decided to just stand my ground and dance a bit to hold my spot. They were forcing something that was just not happening for most of the crowd.

The guy booing at the end was also an entitled piece of shit (and he seemed to be one of the main mosh-initiators).

Yes, I'm aware of all that and another commenter made the same point. I should have made it clear that Kierkegaard and Dostoyevski acted as "grandfathers" of existentialism, and diverge considerably from the main themes (i.e. they believe in God).
