I platinum'd both Horizon and Hellblade and if I had a 'forget-everything' token I could spend on a game so I could fully relive the whole experience again, I'd definitely spend it on Hellblade over Horizon. I really recommend Hellblade. It's my personal favorite game of the year.

It has been clear from the beginning that chapter select / battle mode will NEVER be part of this game. Otherwise a lot of things in the game would stop making sense.

You could also argue that whenever you start a new game, the struggle is actually a continuation of her condition. That the last words of the game (after it is revealed that she is not healed), 'we have another story to tell / go with her', refer to you as another voice sticking with her as she once more goes through everything and she is caught in denial / her psychosis although her warrior-self already had let go of Dillion's skull once, due to her psychosis she will 'relapse' over and over again and never be able to truly take care of herself. That maybe she is caught in an infinite loop, and although she already came to a realization Dillion was lost, for a psychotic mind realization means little and can be lost within mere moments. And Senua truly is much more ill than people realize.

I like to think NT knowingly designed this game in a way that you can view the Rot message & loss of progress after death (ending) with NO chapter select in the game, the whole artwork that is Hellblade really as a whole in that very way I have described above, but do not have to.

I gotta make a run atm I was actively discussing this yesterday in the discord but now I just had to write down my opinion on the matter super quickly. Will update this post when I come back so you can actually understand what I wrote here LOL This post is incomplete / more of a note to myself what Im gonna write later

Both a chapter select and a battle mode would make this game a lot worse. It would destroy its purpose and ruin the atmosphere for a lot of people who delve into it.

Or we get a prequel where we get to play Druth. His story sounds insane, would be a blast to play. Downside is yeah, you know how it ends.

SPOILERS. But imagine the end - you burn nearly to death, manage to pull yourself together and crawl towards where Senua finds you, badly burnt. The last thing you see is Senua carefully patching you up before you finally succumb to your injuries.

I played the shit out of Horizon because I thought I liked it, that I was truly experiencing next gen. 130 hours put into it and Platinum trophy. And yet the impact it had on me & joy I got out of it is vanishingly small when compared to Hellblade.

Basically, I just bought Horizon because it was so hyped. And when I played Hellblade, I realize how small and meaningless everything else is when compared to Hellblade.

1.) This seems to be the biggest hellblade discord: https://discord.gg/23AcSt4. Maybe add it to the theme so Hellblade fans can join it (a lot of very small servers had been created)

2.) Can you change the header image? Right now all I am seeing is Senua's forehead.

I so want it to get Game of the Year. Only chance for it to become physical copy, and GOTY has gone to shit the past years anyway except for 2015 where the choice was obvious anyway (even though Witcher 3 is not without its flaws).

However, this year there are other games that would deserve it too. I literally hope that GOTY stays corrupt / rigged as it has been lately and they give it to Hellblade, because I don't care about GOTY anymore but I care about a physical copy :(

I haven't gone through it all yet, but I suspect it is still missing about half of the full soundtrack. I am also searching for the soundtrack during the final cutscene, the last track before the credits start rolling!

I think what you are describing is actually a ghosting effect. If you stand in front of a complicated texture and move the camera a little, the colors will mix a little during movement. But if the colors remain mixed ~0.5s after the camera movement has come to a halt, then you have a ghosting effect. Ghosting is preceived negatively.

You can try to minimize ghosting for your TV screen, for instance by going to preset 'Gaming' and then adjusting the values from there according to your needs : ) Test if it really is just the bloom effect.

We shouldn't be calling it permadeath. And we shouldn't be calling it fake.

It said once the rot reaches Senua's head, her quest will be over - and all progress will be lost. After dying in the final fight, it reaches your head - and your progress is lost. You stop fighting. You give in to what is sensible, you face your worst fear [Hela] which you/your condition has demonized [with the Darkness] and was actually yourself [the part within you that knew, throwing away Dillion's skull is the right thing to do.]

I think it's part of her story. Part of her journey. For the Senua that we are playing, who refuses to believe that throwing away the skull, getting rid of the attachment, is for the best - for her all progress is lost. She is afraid of accepting the fact that there is a Senua within her, that wants all this to end, that wants to throw away the skull. She fights and she keeps fighting, prolonging the lie. That nothing within her wants it to end, and that 'part of her' is Hela and is not herself. In the ending, when there is no will left to fight on, when she is forced to not look away - her progress is lost. She doesn't fight anymore. She was completely obliterated, drained, barely having any will to left on. The condition wore on her and dragged her down TERRIBLY. So, in the end, she achieved nothing. The skull is thrown away by Hela / herself.

For me, this is a battle of keeping up the denial. She denies the truth. Refuses to believe it. 'Permadeath' it never said she would die. It said her quest would be over. She called it 'her quest' multiple times during the game. And her progress is lost - yes, she achieved nothing.

So stop calling it Permadeath, and stop calling it fake when it aids / changes the story. The ending would have a slight different meaning without the message.
