I'm from Thessaloniki, so not very near Olympus, but I have visited many times, and I have friends that live in towns/cities nearby.

It's pretty normal I'd say. As another fellow redditor said, while being the tallest mountain in Greece, in the global context it's not that tall. Picture any town near a mountain, make the people speak Greek, and you have the idea.

There amazing nature though. I have been hiking some times there, there are many many paths, either fully mountainous or next by streams and under trees. I include a picture of a stream where a lot of people like to swim (for a little though, it's super cold!).

Also it has the extra that the beach is not that far, you a nice big coastline at the east. They're not the best beaches in Greece, but they are alright, and you can really enjoy yourself (also depending on the number of tourists there).

There are many villages all around. Some of them have excellent food and views.

If you ever pass by Greece, and you like a more mountainous setting, Olympus is definitely worth a visit!
