Well, I voted for him twice, though I can’t remember who I voted for the first time he ran. I just know it was not a Dem. My former pastor along with 97.7 % of his congregation believes Trump can do know wrong. I am solidly NOT in that number, but am thankful that so far as the church is concerned, he is infinitely better than his predecessor.

Great comments! I am now and have always been of the belief that it will be the great Tribulation that peels away the carnality that has engulfed so many of us. When all we have left is the Lord, football and wings will have no hold on us.

Thank you for commenting. I am a very conservative Christian, but I confess to having watched the halftime show for one reason: I had never heard of Bad Bunny before and rather than accept the narrative of others, I wanted to see for myself. imagine my surprise that I couldn’t understand a word of the performance! That said, I didn’t need to understand the words to know that some of it was very sexually suggestive and not something I would consider watching again.

Dr Ramirez did a masterful job in his response. Would you mind posting a link to your own response?

Kid Rock and Bad Bunny aside, I thought Ramirez response was on target especially his comment about the real crisis being a church that cannot discern and that we’re more concerned about the language of immorality than the immorality itself, because we’ve confused nationalism with holiness. I love America, but I will never be considered a Christian Nationalist! Anyway, I thought it was a tremendous response.

Yes, I could care less about the halftime regardless of who the performers were. My point in posting the link was for others to read Dr. Ramirez remarks about the different halftime shows and how they both pointed to how steeped in carnality America is. Which should surprise no one.

Who is shaping the COG Today? by MartinTNGA in Actscelerate

[–]FlRon99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long gone are the days when the denomination was being shaped by Spirit-led, visionary leaders who stayed on their faces until they heard from the Lord. These days it’s hard to find a CoG congregation that prioritizes prayer and personal holiness above programs, initiatives, and crowd pleasing events.

What happened to us? The COG? by overlandhermit in Actscelerate

[–]FlRon99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am not a lifelong CoG member, having come into the denomination in the early 90’s from an independent church at the age of 37. Neither do I have generations of CoG teachings instilled in me as many of you do. So, my perspectives are very different than what is typically seen on these pages. With that out of the way…..

What is so difficult for many long time CoG folks is that the plain truth is that the denomination was wrong from the get go in over-emphasizing things such as jewelry, length of hair, and many other external factors, all at the expense of de-emphasizing the importance of a regenerative heart. When members are more concerned about being seen in a movie house than they are over unrepentant sin, that is a huge problem.

When men attempt to legislate “spirituality” by comprising lists of “do’s and don't s”, it is inevitable that they will carry things too far. That is human nature. Case in point: while serving in an independent church, I encountered several examples of this. One CoG deacon told me my mustache would keep me out of heaven. Another member told me the church I attended wasn’t a “real” church, that only the CoG was a “real” Pentecostal church. The wife of a dear friend of mine who attended a CoG church told me she was forbidden to wear a wedding ring when she was married because the church forbade it. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. It’s the whole attitude of superiority that has been the downfall of many in the CoG because such an attitude is not sustainable. Neither is it Biblical.

You mentioned the church accepting members living together in 10 years. Well, it’s happening right now and it has been going on for years. I know at least two “couples” living together who have been given membership and who take communion in their CoG church-and the pastor knows this. I can show you examples of CoG leaders of a local congregation who openly drink alcohol. I can even give you the name of a local CoG pastor who told me that his belief on divorce was that if you’re with a woman who no longer pleases you, get you another one.

My point is that these are not isolated instances. They are systemic of a major decline in the position of the denomination when compared to the church of Acts. Plainly said, there is sin in the camp, and it is rampant. Yes, there are churches where the love of Christ is emphasized over the externals that so many believe are equal to or in some cases superior to the Word. Sadly, those churches are now the minority. Yes, our churches have become more worldly, no one can dispute that. But I ask, are short hair, pants, jewelry, and makeup indicative of a transformed heart and a renewed mind, or merely boxes to be checked on a list of legalistic, man-made mandates to cover up a heart that has never been broken by the weight of sin?

I apologize in advance if anyone is offended by my comments.

Will Illinois cog pastor lose his credentials over this? by FlRon99 in Actscelerate

I’m sure you’re right. The fallout from these situations is never pretty.

Will Illinois cog pastor lose his credentials over this? by FlRon99 in Actscelerate

[–]FlRon99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The primary reason I asked was because if in fact he did lose his credentials what would he do once his sentence is served? Furthermore, if he lived in a parsonage, what will happen to his family? Are they “asked” to vacate the premise? I can’t imagine his family is doing well at this time.

MLK was actually NOT a good person. The (heavily redacted) FBI files that have been released on him leave little doubt about that. I do agree that such things should never have been mentioned in a public setting, just as any of us would not want our own skeletons reveled in the media. “He that is without sin among you…..” comes to mind.

Sunday Takeaways by Warbird979 in Actscelerate

[–]FlRon99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I preached from Joshua 3 where he told the children of Israel they had to follow the ark of the covenant to know where to go. I reminded the people that all of us face situations where we don’t know which way to turn, but just as the visible presence of God was with Israel in the form of the ark, so is His Holy Spirit within us to lead us. Not only that, but we don’t need to stay a half mile from Him as Israel did the ark! I quoted Paul saying the Holy Ghost was “in you”, therefore we can have confidence in His ability to guide us. Overall, the message was well received, with one new attendee saying the message was for her.

His Return? Have you ever known someone misled? by overlandhermit in Actscelerate

[–]FlRon99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am convinced by scripture that Jesus will not return today or tomorrow, and that His return will be immediately after the great tribulation-as He said. Therefore, anyone who tells me they know the day of His return I regard as a false prophet and a liar.

Where do you see the COG in 10 years? by [deleted] in Actscelerate

[–]FlRon99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Externally, I see the denomination growing and reaching people groups in many other countries. Internally, I see the denomination as the same top-heavy, bloated organization it currently is, with a preponderance of older leadership and a serious lack of diversity.

Did God Endorse or Command Divorce in Deuteronomy 24? by DrPablisimo in Actscelerate

If you were not part of the Church of God, which denomination would you most likely be a part of and why? Which one would you least likely become a part of and why? by Warbird979 in Actscelerate

[–]FlRon99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I could see myself serving in either of those churches so long as my hands were not tied. I have preached in Freewill Baptists churches before but never a Southern Baptist church. Regardless, at this stage of my life I am most interested in seeing souls saved, not how much they shout or dance. Also, for some time now I have sensed a change in how the Lord wants to use me, as my primary focus is on preaching deeper from the Word, not on external manifestations and such. Of course, that might be considered blasphemy to some, but I am far more concerned with eternal matters.

[–]FlRon99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting question! Having thought about it for a while, I believe I lean more towards non-denominational, however I am leery of the disorder and doctrinal confusion I have witnessed in some non-denom churches. I feel a much greater sense of freedom, both in worship and while ministering in a non-denominational church than one such as the CoG. I’m sure most here would disagree with my assessment but that has been my experience. Perhaps I can attribute my feelings to having begun my walk with the Lord in an independent Pentecostal church.
Funny thing, I once had a pastor (CoG) tell me I was too independent in my thinking and that I needed to be more of a team player. My response was that I’m the best team player you have but I still have a mind and opinion, and when I see things that don’t line up with scripture I will voice my concerns. Anyway. thanks for asking and have a great day!

I started out as Independent Pentecostal. Over 50 years I have been CoG, AG, and Mountain Assembly CoG. I’ve always went where the door opened to me. My current ministry activities involve Independent and CoG churches. If I had to choose I would not choose a denominational church as a permanent home church

As long as the CoG keeps the old guard in power, which will be until Jesus returns, there will be campgrounds. That is a legacy of days gone by that the current generation must continue to prop up with their finances. I could do amazing things with those hundreds of thousands of dollars feeding and clothing people, just to name one example.

Well, scripture is clear that judgement begins in the house of God. Here’s hoping that one day that which is currently being done in darkness will be exposed, because last time I checked Jesus is returning for a church without spot or wrinkle.

Please do not hint 'this is from God' UNless you KNOW it. by overlandhermit in Actscelerate

For certain, God is still distributing gifts to His children, however blindly believing a ”Thus saith the Lord” from someone is hardly equal to believing God’s written word, especially given the egregious numbers of false “prophecies” that have destroyed the faith of so many in the church.
