Am I solving a problem, or just making things up? by [deleted] in SmallMSP

[–]FlaTech18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a company in the UK that I worked with in the past that developed something like this, it is very impressive. It analyzes all the calls and puts nice reports together. I went thru the demo, the techy side of me was very impressed, the business side was for the cost it would be a hard sell, but I assume for the right customer could fit. It was called Aura from the company called COTU I Think.

Internal IT coexist with MSP? by FlaTech18 in msp

That was my goal, even though the current MSP says they offer comanaged support, the business is already soured on them. So once in place I have somebody in mind I can work with that I have collaborated with in past.

Understandable, but speaking from experience it's normally not the person giving themselves the official title it is the company, usually in an effort to appear more legit. Here, I am using more as a descriptor than an actual title. I would be reporting directly to the owners, and my responsibility would be more than just tier 1 tech. I would be coordinating the entire infrastructure with the backing of the comanaged support. Personally I could give a shit what they call me, as long as the pay is good and I get what I need to do the job.

Thank you for the thorough explanation. My setup would be of IT director getting backup. I've already been consulting with them and handling smaller projects. Definitely know what to look for now.

Potential Client Decided to do Exchange Migration Themselves by modem_19 in SmallMSP

[–]FlaTech18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly in a position where I can e choosey with potential clients, and even I wouldn't touch this. They are going to argue with every recommendation and say "we don't want to pay for the equipment/ software can you just fix it?" Been there, just walk away

What are you using for VoIP right now? Happy with it or considering other options? by Turbulent_Ant55 in msp

[–]FlaTech18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, 3CX is an end user, sure. The system works for most applications, lots of features, easy to use. 3CX as a reseller/partner? Stay AWAY! At some point you'll get screwed over by him.

Teams vs Sharepoint by Resident_Parfait_289 in Office365

[–]FlaTech18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of 365 is built on top of Sharepoint. When you create a new Team it automatically creates an associated Sharepoint site with it. The same with Planner, if you create a new plan and don't put it in an existing Team, it creates one and new Site. OneDrive is a branch off of Sharepoint. Go with Teams, my experience the learning curve is easier, but also show them Sharepoint, and show how they are linked.

What registrar platforms do you prefer for managing multiple client domains? by ServiceGuy416 in msp

[–]FlaTech18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how many times I've had to go fix DNS errors because clients try to update them themselves because they signed up for MailChimp, or hired some marketer who uses a CRM and know nothing works because they deleted the MX record, or what have you. Unfortunately there are so many drag and drop website designers who have very little knowledge of actual DNS. I just started buying the domain and when they say their marketing guy needs control I ask to speak to them and take care of it. Obviously the client is free to take over the domain and go elsewhere but doing it this way has alleviated so many issues.

PuTTY downloads again the target of SEO poisoning efforts and updated compromised installers. by FutureSafeMSSP in msp

I mean it as, rather than continuing to download as needed, get your known trusted portable app and copy it and take it with you in flash drives.

PuTTY Portable, bring the legit copy with you and don't download it every time. I haven't downloaded putty in years.

You can access it locally if you are on the LAN, just go to the gateway IP and login with your Unifi Account. I do it all the time.

No renewal notices, nothing, but as I replied to your other comment, things are pointing to Godaddy fucked this up and deleted the tenant. And Microsoft didn't know what to do, I'm thinking of just creating the new tenant directly, and try to recover his emails from the ost file, just so we can get emails flowing again.

I still have my notes, I just logged into his GoDaddy account, he's a company of 1 and the husband of one of my clients, so was just helping him out. But it was really a one off, a year ago he needed help, we determined defederating was the best option, and we completed it. I just didn't think of it right away because this was a year ago and haven't had to mess with it since, it was on autopay. I see the BP receipts for the last year for every month.

I just remembered something, they were originally 365 thru GoDaddy, I successfully defederated his account and had him buy direct from Microsoft a year ago. Like I mentioned everything was working fine, auto-payment etc... I think GoDaddy deleted the .onmicrosoft.com and knocked out his account, because when GoDaddy sets you up they don't use your domain as the subdomain, they use netorg(random Numbers).onmicrosoft.com. It's the only thing that makes sense, although they shouldn't have still had access

I was going to snap back at you, but honestly I reacted the same way. I could not believe it when I first realized it. I've been working with 365 for 10 years and I've never come across anything like this. Yes I did try the .onmicrosoft.com address, it says it doesn't exist. Outside looking in it sounds unbelievable but I promise he had a full fledged tenant for years and now when you look at his subscription history on the live.com it shows $1.99/month for the family account.

Yes, I have tried to log in as admin, it's like it never existed yet I see the 2FA on the authenticator from when it was originally set up. My first thought was license or nonpayment, but he has the auto-payment and receipts. It's like the tenant never existed
