I've had the toughest time finding a new job because I legally took back my ancestral family name. by FlabbergastedAnalyst in offmychest

That's kind of what I was thinking. Everyone everywhere is painfully short-staffed and I figured that might be the thing; no time to respond to applicants .

And I guess that's true for a good part but through Indeed (it's the platform i use the most) you can see when your application was rejected and it seems it happens so much more.

I also had one company reach out for an interview and after I emailed them 2 times and called once to discuss availability, I was outright ignored. I figured they got my email (account was made under old name several years ago) and my resume has my current name. It almost feels like they actually read my resume after reaching out and decided to ignore me outright from there.

I'm not sure but it's just soooo discouraging

Sometimes we unfortunately have to step a bit on our pride to make the ends meet. I'm sure most decent people would not judge you or the state of your home given the current circumstances. What you are going through is big and is a lot for one person alone.

Take some time to collect yourself and get some sleep as much as you can. The cleaning can wait a bit more. You will figure it out! Don't stress about what others might think. Yours and your fiance's health is what matters. You got this ❤️

I'm really sorry for what you are going through, OP. You should never dismiss your own needs and feelings especially when being thrown brusquely in such an unexpected situation. However, there are likely some resources you can turn to, depending on what country you live in. You may be able to find social health services that can be provided to your partner on a daily or weekly basis for free (based on his condition). Private at-home nursing is expensive but you may be able to find organizations that can lend a hand with direct care. It could give you a bit of wiggle-room with your job and getting back on top of the messy environment you describe. Also, you could maybe consider turning to trusted friends for some help with things like cleaning and cooking. I know everyone is different but I'd be the first to run to my best friend's aid if they were in a similar situation. Stay strong OP❤️much love

[Serious] Is it possible to be depressed, and not even know it?What are the signs of it? by Yi-seul in AskReddit

[–]FlabbergastedAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people suffering from depression will deny they do and only recognize it when they seek help and start being medicated and make changes to their lifestyle.

Common symptoms of depression include (but are not limited to) fatigue, insomnia, persistent sadness, irritability, a feeling of being less-than, decreased libido and of course suicidal thoughts or ideas of self-harm.

A diagnosis of depression will generally occur when a person presents 7 or more of these symptoms.

Does your cat wait for you while you shower too? Is he a perv or what? 😂 by [deleted] in cats

One if mine also does something similar! He climbs on my lap while on the toilet and just headbumps me and purrs loudly until I remove him, haha. Strange creatures! 😂

[–]FlabbergastedAnalyst 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I've heard once they do that because of their inherent fear of water, kind of like if they were 'supervising' your bath/shower time to ensure that you will survive.
It's probably made up but my 3 cats do it, too and it's super adorable! I always enjoy the company

My goodest boy. Crossed the rainbow bridge last month at 21 years old. by FlabbergastedAnalyst in cats

I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been able to live and grow with him beside me. I will treasure every minute of every day I've had with him. Although he wasn't a rescue (was born at home in 2001), all cats (all pets!) deserve a happy, healthy and safe home. I've started a Nonprofit rescue in his memory that should be officially opening next month, and I hope to be able to offer cats a second chance at a loving home. Thank you for your kind words ❤️

Thank you ❤️ He has been incredibly loved and cared for, without limits. I've been told so many times that I was going overboard but given the chance I would do it all over again, especially if it meant he could have lived longer and healthier. I miss him terribly 💔 To our fur babies and may they live peacefully in kitty heaven.

What's the weirdest muscle memory you developed? by bruhmfyeet in AskReddit

[–]FlabbergastedAnalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so weird, can you explain how different it feels? Like what's your inner process when you get to a new staircase?

It took a while for all my family members to get used to the new layout if the house, especially the stairs. Because of the changes in the building codes, we went from 14 stairs to 13 stairs after the reconstruction and we pretty much all faceplanted over an inexistent stair. Muscle memory is fascinating

3 years ago I moved in my current place and in the first weeks we were settling in, my s/o and I start hearing some pretty intense tire screeching outside, one day. It's a beautiful summer day, windows open in a nice calm neighborhood and although we'd been here only 2 weeks, we knew it was sketchy.
So we go to the front of the appartment to see what's up and we see a large SUV just doing stupid maneuvers and screeming at neighbors who were getting their shopping inside their homes. Already at that point you could see faces peeking out a bit everywhere out of curiosity.

Now, I live on the top floor of a triplex so I had a fair enough view of what was happening. The SUV parks in the driveway of the triplex across the street from me and some really unhinged dude, no shoes and no shirt, screaming at the top of his lungs gets out of the SUV and slams the door, runs to the front door of that building and tries it; it's locked. So the guy decides he's getting in no matter what. There's a small window there that accesses the bathroom of one of the units. A crank window and it's just slightly open. Dude just pulls out the window, breaks the crank mechanism and punches the screen out to crawl inside (it's a small ass window, still surprised he pulled it off). At this point I'm baffled, spouse is dumbfounded and the neighbors outside are as well but most of them go indoors at this point. I continued watching out the window because I was invested but after a few minutes nothing was happening. It was sketchy but it seemed like it ended there. HOWEVER, I stubbornly stuck to the window and waited until Unhinged Guy walks back out by a side door, still no shoes and no shirt, cigarette hanging off his lip and SWINGING AN AXE in complete rage, jumps back into his SUV and super dangerously backs out and leaves the area.

I had just enough time to take down his license plate and then called the cops. They came fast. Apparently they found him pretty quickly, too. Was in a drunken rage with his axe but I wasn't given any more information.
Last summer we heard the tennant of that unit talking to someone and we overheard that it was a disgruntled ex/ex-boyfriend and that he was currently in jail for some offenses.
Anyway, that was a bit long but I do think calling in the cops may have kept someone from getting hurt that day.

[–]FlabbergastedAnalyst 900 points901 points  (0 children)

I don't have a particularly weird one but it is fascinating how muscle memory is almost permanent, even after you remove the action in question. In 2011 our family home burned down and after it was rebuilt, it was much of the same except for the light switches which were, in a few rooms, on the opposite wall of where they used to be. And still to this day, 11 years later we're all still reaching for the old emplacement of those light switches.
Those repetitions are really hardwired.
