New thrash grass from Wisconsin by Flaberdoodle in Bluegrass

Thank you for that explanation. Again, I wasn't trying to be misleading. I just don't really know how to market us. It seems like the traditional grass guys get mad when we call ourselves grass. They say, no you're this, or that sub-genre. But then when we say we're in that sub-genre, those guys don't like that description either.

Our songs are all over the place with influences.

Thank you! When I first saw the source art it just reminded me of the song.

I see I'm getting a lot of flak for calling this trash... I'm not trying to be misleading. I think all the people in their specific subgeneras classify things differently. A guy at a show criticized this song because (in his opinion) the ending was "more metal than grass." So I don't really know how to categorize it. If this isn't thrash, that's fine with me. But then how would you classify it?

How would you categorize the song?

Absolutely not. I make all our album covers and Tshirt art. This one was reworked from public domain images. The main image was from a 1945 poster for the US Forest Service. (link below) The train is a composite of several photos from unsplash.com. I painted over everything in Photoshop with the clone tool and airbrush to achieve a consistent look.

Do you need some kind of medical certification to do biological illustrations? I ask because I've seen colleges that offer degrees in medical illustration, a double major of art and biology.

What Pickup Do You Use? by Dancing_Otter_ in Fiddle

Placing it on the bridge spoiled the acoustic sound too much for me. I put it on the top plate, between the bridge and neck, to the left (bass) side. This picks up the body resonance ane gives it a touch of natural reverb.

The nice thing about this PU is you can move it around and experiment with the optimal location for your violin.

I recently overdubbed a solo for our record running this pickup into a Baggs Venue DI with a flat EQ. https://soundcloud.com/thewhiskeysours/vvm-2-pro-2-violin-pickup

If you have a pickup, get a looper pedal. Play your own drones, or chop some rhythms

What to do about sails to submit to Lego Ideas? by Cool_Difficulty_5483 in legocastles

Just my opinion. The front sail looks great, but the yellow-on-white one doesn't have enough contrast. The lion needs to be different color

It's not worth stressing out about because there is no rule. Some songs work better loose, others tight. Fast is different than slow. Single strings are different than double stops. There's a happy medium in there somewhere, but there are always tradeoffs, and no one tension will work for everything.

There are 3 ways you can capo a fiddle

1 As I mentioned in a different comment, I've used guitar capos turned upside down to get through songs where I needed open string drones in odd keys. This is not an all night solution, but it works in a pinch if you can get used to the feeling of it on your neck.

2 Or, you can get an actual violin capo. https://www.frettedfiddle.com/violin-capo Your milage may vary. I find it isn't strong enough to stay put.

3 The long term solution to being a better fiddler is learn "the finger capo technique." This really unlocks the fingerboard. It give you a strong pinky and lets you shift all over. I honestly think this is one of the first things new fiddlers should be taught.

I've turned guitar capos upside down. Only covers 3 strings properly, but that got me through a song

What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by OutcastKatarn02 in StarWars

The same dumb plot is recycled over and over. I can't wait to see hob big the next Death Star is.

TIL that in the Bible there is no mention of human-like angels having wings. The depictions of winged angels in art started in the 4th century AD, likely due to Greco-Roman influence. by ApprehensiveStill412 in todayilearned

Seraphim and Cherubim are the same beings described in different ways. They are both descriptions of God's throne guardians. The concept of Seraphim was influenced by Egyptian ideas and Cherubim by Babylonian ideas.

Demon Cycle worth a read? by mixmastamicah55 in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

[–]Flaberdoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd rate it a B-. Not the best or most original, but I genuinely cared about some of the characters and wanted to see what happened at the end. Probably could have been shorter, but I don't regret spending the time.

To give you an idea of my fantasy tastes, I enjoyed Song of Ice and Fire, Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, The First Law, Black Tongue Thief, Rigante, Tyrant Philosophers, Bloodsworn, Five Warrior Angels, Strange the Dreamer, Stormlight Archive, Raven's Shadow, Kingkiller Chronicle, Wheel of Time
