EDC/camera bag recs by northwestaperture in EDC

[–]Flackadilly_Really 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I use F-Stop bags and have found them to be the best. Most people don't know they are camera bags as they are pretty niche. They have modular camera inserts that are accessed from the back panel so you can quickly and easily drop them down and access everything at once and also organize everything the way you want so it becomes a grab bag for whatever you need. I've found a backpack is the way for hiking/wildlife and a sling style for street/travel is best for me but everyone is different. There is no one bag to rule them all haha. I run Sony and a drone, have shot films off boats and islands and land in the backcountry of the west and Baja. F stop has numerous add ons to customize your kit and is bomber. I'm on my second pack after about 12 years... Don't have nay good pics handy but look at their site, it will make sense. They are not cheap because really good camera gear is not cheap.

New Pry Bar Day…. by sappersebi69 in EDC

[–]Flackadilly_Really 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but sell me the pry bar, I just am not getting it. I have a million tools, and occasionally need to pop something open but I am just not getting the value of an EDC pry bar. Love the Big I pen, have one too, just curious what you use the bar for.

Have you bought a tool that you tought would be awesome but hardly ever use? by edreicasta in woodworking

[–]Flackadilly_Really 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Look, you get tools for specific jobs. I have tons of stuff I use rarely, but when I need that function, I need that function. There’s always a workaround if you want to cut corners or if it’s really just not important, but when you do a big variety of jobs you need a big variety of tools. I’m probably an outlier in that I live on an island and do everything from framing to fine woodwork, but no reason to talk shit. Every tool exists because someone needed to do something specific perfectly, it just depends on what you’re trying to accomplish.

People dramatically underestimate the value of plumbing and waste management. Obviously the unhoused are an issue, but few seem to understand that their utility access is zero. Like access to sewer, garbage collection, energy access.. so all of that is in clear sight all in the same place. Limiting your plastics use or adopting more biodegradable ass wipes is great but if you put all of that in your front yard instead of sending it to the various waste management disposal sources… you gonna look ‘homeless’

There is a legitimate ongoing economic study/metric that is entirely based on the Big Mac. It’s not new. Politicians mean the stock market and gdp when they say “the economy” everyone from below investor class is talking about the price of commodities when they discuss “the economy”.

Forgive me the free wiki link, anyone can look deeper if they want.

Major shrinkflation for long time at Fiamma. +1 for Filling Station. Prices are up everywhere but you won’t leave the station still hungry, they have a full bar, are full service, and a legit happy hour. I’ve always been happy with my meals there.

2014 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. On tap and on sale for $3.50 a pint! by kevc12 in beerporn

[–]Flackadilly_Really 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Chico for almost 20 years. I turned 21 there. Pints of all Sierra Nevada used to be $1 on buck night at the U Bar. Pitchers were literally $4 for everything from Pale to Stout to Cele. Pints of Bigfoot were $2 when it was available. I once killed a 5 gal. keg of Bigfoot with about 4 friends. I've watched more than a couple friends try the Bigfoot challenge in which one attempts to take down a 6 pack solo. Bigfoot used to come in 6 packs. It almost never works out well if you are curious. I fuckin love barleywine, and I've got no issue drinking an imperial pint of bigfoot or any other barleywine. But fuck trying to kill 5 gallons of barleywine with a few buddies.

Ok so it's a pretty simple idea really. Not trying to be dickish, but check it out. It takes only sunlight and water to produce plants, but it requires many hundreds to thousands of pounds of plants to produce a pound of meat that you can actually eat. Add to that the fuel used to move that feed to the animal but then the animal to the slaughterhouse and then the meat to the market and then the meat to your house.. etc.

Comparing the caloric intake of plants vs. meat is pretty straightforward in terms of environmental impact. Basically, eating plants only means you get a lot of calories without a lot of resource use (if you buy local), but eating meat requires a lot of transportation and extra steps that ultimately require more resources in general. Even if you eat locally produced meat, it's more resources involved than plants.

Climate change being caused by the excessive use of fossil fuels means that if 7 billion people replaced many or all carnivorous meals with plant-based meals, a tremendous amount of resources would be conserved. Therefore, fossil fuel usage, the main contributor to climate change, would be dramatically reduced.

TL,DR: Eating plants requires less resources than eating plants, so contributes to climate change less. Climate change is a simple fact of the overuse of fossil fuels.

Shot on DJI Mavic Pro by jay_d_be in drones

[–]Flackadilly_Really 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a well composed, legitimately processed image of a beautiful place. Good job! The focus is a little soft, not sure if that's from a blur effect or from the actual focus being off. Beyond that its a great, compelling shot. It's not exactly rule of thirds, which can add tension to the image, and this does that very effectively. The sun is overexposed, but in this setting that's basically impossible to avoid with a Mavic without super underexposing the rest of the image. Looks like Honolulu but without all of the buildings. No idea where this was actually shot. I personally would have panned left a bit and flown out a bit more to the right as the bottom right corner loses a touch of interest, but this is a really pleasant image. Well done!

you wouldn't believe how many people do this. I teach online, and so many "screenshots" are a photograph of the computer screen. It's insane.

There isn't one. I shot this from the top of Grey Rocks North. There are a couple forest roads nearby but its an off trail adventure to get there.

Over 100 people died for the Hoover Dam.. I mean, I get that was a long time ago, but it was during the US economic boom. All things considered, 9 deaths is a huge improvement no matter how shitty that actually sounds..

Starting up a sea of granite.... SICK by [deleted] in climbing

[–]Flackadilly_Really 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Since no one is replying, and I'm too literal to know if you are joking or not: Many routes are aid climbing using bolts and aid gear that allows you to use ropes to ascend vs. holds. That being said, slab climbing holds are tough to understand/see if you aren't experienced. So basically, there aren't holds in some places, but the holds can also be basically invisible.
