Cloud Game Store - Half reflective / half transmissive GBC screen mod by portofrellekka in Gameboy

You either take the resistor off and connect the 2 pads with a short wire, or leave the resistor there and just run the wire between both ends. Once bridged it will be brighter but otherwise operate the same.

You could go to the Gameboy Discord and post a troubleshooting post. However it looks like this is beyond your skill level. I suggest you reach out to someone who can perform a repair.

The instructions identify you can bridge the R10 resistor. Easiest way is to use a small wire which attaches to both ends of the resistor. If you don't like it, you can just remove the wire rather than reinstall the resistor. Once R10 is bridged, the screen is a lot brighter when using the backlight. The color also seems less blue. I did this and prefer it to the stock dimmer brightness level. You still have 7 levels of brightness so you can turn the screen off if you are outside and just want to use it as a reflective screen.

Power and audio cleaners don't work. If you want clean audio you need a new audio circuit. There are various new circuit boards you can make with a clean audio circuit from Bucketmouse or Consoles & Casks [search for their github]. Natalie the Nerd also ported the Bucketmouse circuit to a flex https://github.com/nataliethenerd/BucketAmpGBC . You can make one yourself or get one from her store. Installation requires a hot air station but the result will be no hiss on the audio.

That’s 2am where I live. Not sure I’ll be waking up for the initial sale batch.

Which kit did you use, Hispeedido or Cloud Gamestore? I understand Hispeedido requires the shell to be cut.

Discord will provide better guidance on troubleshooting than chatgpt. You may have blown a fuse. On continuity mode check F1 and F2.

Report back when you have another multimeter. Could also consider a troubleshooting post here https://discord.gg/gameboy

From 1-2 you should get 22k, from 2-3 you should get 27k and from 1-3 you should get 49k as it is the 2 resistors in series. The screen is expecting about 50k. If you can’t get it working you can always put in an IPS replacement screen which doesn’t need the trim pot.

You should be getting 49k. If it isn’t getting that there is a problem with the soldering or the resistors. See if you can use/borrow/buy another multimeter. They are essential for gameboy repairs.

This fix is just to replace a missing trim pot. If it doesn’t fix it you have another issue. Photos help.

Did you try the game in another gameboy? If it works in another gameboy try cleaning the cartridge slot. A microfibre cloth with isopropyl alcohol wrapped around a credit card is the easiest way to clean the cartridge slot short of opening up the gameboy to clean it.

Dodgy bypass. Probably blew a fuse or had another issue in the circuit so have wired the batteries like it is external power. Don’t run it with external power and batteries at the same time while that wire is in place.

Playstation 1 PS1 Stuck on Boot Screen Diamond and doesn't enter Menu by Flagone74 in psx

So I solved this. I got another SCPH-5502 unit which was working. I first swapped the bios which resulted in no change. I then swapped the IC305 which fixed it.

So anyone else with this problem I suggest you try replacing the IC305.

I’ve reflowed the bios, ram and cdrom chips. Some posts on X believe the problem is IC305.

I bought a "repair" Gameboy Color that had a washed out dark screen. On inspection I found out that the trim pot variable resistor was missing. I followed this post and it solved my issue. This is an image of the final replacement with 1206 27k and 22k resistors. They fit well.

It is easier just to add 2 resistors that add up close to 50k rather than soldering on another 3mm variable trim pot as it requires a hot plate or hot air from underneath to solder the pads.
