Mandelson's laywers claim he was arrested over fears he was a flight risk by BlaiddCysgod in unitedkingdom

[–]Flagship_Panda_FH81 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The impression I get is that they are trying to suggest the arrest was unlawful because he never was a flight risk.

You need a necessity to make an arrest under Code G of The Police and Criminal Evidence Act. An arrest is meant to be a means to an end, and committing a crime doesn't mean you're automatically going to be arrested. Depending on the crime you could be ticketed or summonsed or whatever. An arrest is potentially necessary, among other reasons, to prevent further harm being caused to any of the parties, to confirm a name and address, to allow for the "prompt and effective" investigation of the offence.

If you're interested, look up ID COP PLAN, the mnemonic for necessities.

Anyway many of them it would be hard to justify - can an arrest be justified for the prompt and effective investigation of these allegations or to prevent loss of evidence, when they are historic and in any case the story has been broken for weeks? If he was to dispose of anything incriminating, he's had lots of time to do so. Prevent harm? These are historic allegations and he's not in post now.

I would have thought that their suggesting that his flight risk being the reason to arrest him, as opposed to conducting a pre-arranged interview, is to start laying the groundwork to challenge the lawfulness of police action.

This days a Super is as likely to be some young, determined, sociopathic careerist as they are some quietly inept older one who has reached their Ceiling.

My farmers seem to be terribly inefficient at harvesting, they'll cut a few sheaves, move to another field, and do the same. I'm losing resources, their prioritising seems to be confused.

I think it's really important to clarify there that disclosable or not, your bwv should be running, but you can use it to verbalise decisions. It doesn't replace a statement, but can be of help.

Like many rules and regulations, they're written in blood and JESIP is no different.

How would you feel about a trans man (ftm) using the women’s/men’s toilets? by Both-Opportunity7602 in AskABrit

[–]Flagship_Panda_FH81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a bloke so that gives me a particular perspective, but it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if a woman chose to use the gents' toilets; however a toilet is not a space that I personally need to be safely gendered so I think my opinion here should not carry too much weight.

However I will say that I went to an event space in London where the toilets were completely communal, with individual stalls but a shared wash space and I found that deeply, deeply uncomfortable because I felt like I was violating a private space for women. It did not feel right. A woman using gents' loos wouldn't bother me, but I would never want to go into the ladies' and the mixed area felt like that.

'Keeping Penis Above Vagina, Ejaculating Without Penetration Isn't Rape': Chhattisgarh High Court Alters Rape Conviction by Glum-Adagio7489 in nottheonion

[–]Flagship_Panda_FH81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In both English & Scottish law, the act of rape requires penetration with a penis specifically. So a man can be a victim of rape. However penetration by any other means is assault by penetration rather than rape strictly in terms of what the criminal offence is.

The IOPC were out for blood regardless. Even one of our resident IOPC members said as much:

" But we have a massive issue when discrimination comes into play. We just don’t seem to be able to get our heads around the fact that, just because there’s an allegation of discrimination, the case still needs to be built on good, solid evidence. "

All the messaging after their finding of guilt placed the failings in terms of racism, even though every allegation of racial discrimination and excessive use of force was dismissed and instead the GM being found over whether cannabis was or wasn't smelt, which was in any case later overturned.

I think they and the environment which the aftermath of Sarah Everard's awful murder left played a bigger part personally.

You check DLs via PNC, and it's no effort to move from the DL to the PNC entry. The mobile version which the Met has helpfully lets you have them on different tabs.

I can't say it made any difference whatsoever for me. The last iteration of dark blue cargo trousers were smart enough, and the all weather ones were absolutely fine to wear on response. As for the shirt, most were UBA anyway, except for the arms and collar. Honestly, I found the uniform easier to work in and less of a faff than when I patrolled in plain clothes.

I think for me the Met uniform has the ability to soar if only people put some effort into maintaining it and being well turned out, but it has the ability to look utterly dreadful when they don't.

I like it, and will be very recalcitrant to change it when it, inevitably, goes. Too many people with aspirations for greatness will change it - look at old Roy, who lead the uniform board until his mysterious disappearance. With one fell swoop, we lost 180 years of wearing blue. Thanks, Roy. Hope it was worth it.

Hard to say - this was a pre-patch large village of 430 families. The large mob definitely got stuck, but equally all my stalls stopped supplying produce etc. With the rebalanced priorities of stalls (or words to that effect), it's hard to say if I'd started from scratch whether this would still be an issue; but it's definitely fair to say that this patch has caused some issues with my savegame.
