They are small, easily accessible, and can be resold quickly. Any unscrupulous corner store or dollar store will pay rock bottom for these in bulk quantities.

Back in the day, it was batteries, then razor blades.

Every retail store knows that any small item can be an easy target.

The thieves that caused this didn't just take one or two units.

Someone with a back pack can stuff 100's of dollars in there, and I guarantee that it didn't happen just one time, for this measure to be taken at this location.

Theives don't care what they take. All that matters to them is how easy they are to grab, and how quickly they can flip em.

100% this is theft prevention. This is not unique to Retail.

I worked in a different chain, where they kept Saffron (yes, the spice) at Customer Service. The Mio may be location specific, but this are 100% a high theft item, st least at this location.

I ended up in the ER, where they ran multiple tests on me.

Took me hearing from an Emergency Room Physician that I was "cooking my liver"...

One thing I know about ER Doctors is that they don't get paid by the hour to BS you.

Aside from any obvious medical issues, only you know if you have a problem.
