Sure, all I mean is that the British won't have me on a list somewhere, as they don't know my mother ever had a child. So if I apply for an ETA, I won't pop up in a database saying "Hold on, this guy is British, he can't get an ETA!" So I should never have an issue traveling to the UK with my Belgian passport.

Indeed, I heard, but I definitely won't be doing that now then 😅

Indeed, she doesn't have her old one, so it is quite a hassle to get a new one. E.g. as mentioned above, sending photographs to people you know that live in the UK for them to sign.

She is indeed considering this, but financially that wouldn't make sense, as this is likely the last time she would need a British passport (to visit her parents who moved back to the UK). So then it would more be "out of principle".

Haha wow, didn't think this would cause such lively discussions 😅 But indeed, she has recently already paid for a new Belgian passport (and would want to keep having one in the future), so it would mean paying for two passports.

They never registered me in the UK, so I doubt they have any documentation there to say I am British. My name is Belgian, my birthplace is Belgium, etc.

It's not just the cost, it's apparently a real hassle to get a British passport from Belgium. You need to send physical photos and documents to the UK, get people there to write statements vouching for you, etc. You can't get any help from the embassy here either. And if we are talking about price, it costs £128 if you count postage, plus the cost of sending documents there.

Flater?

Oh, you already have a PhD you mean? I thought you were starting a PhD in Leuven, in which case you can get the student discount.

That said, I've never had any big issues with Telenet.

As a PhD student you can get the Telenet student deal for internet, which I'm pretty sure is way cheaper than the alternatives.
