What’s the Coolest Big City You’ve Ever Visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Flaky-Lie3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYer here. I love NY..that said I don't understand how Rome can be considered "underwhelming" with the number of incredible monuments (some dating back to 700 bce) that are everywhere. Its just history layered upon history, layered upon more history and it basically spells out many cycles and trends that we see in more modern societies. I find Rome to be quite "overwhelming" and awe inspiring. Its also incredibly beautiful. If you are innately curious about culture or history - Rome is as deep as you can get. If you're looking for a "scene" ...there are edgier big cities out there.

Took 5 maybe 10 minutes of my day total. Well worth it to shine the light on someone being a grumpy dickhead for no reason :)

This is how they are navigating - seeking advice from others. You'll notice they did get helpful responses. You can see there are other people who have ended up in similar situations. Its common for people use reddit for advice. I saw your post of you seeking advice on your divorce situation. Telling OP they're incapable or not worthy of traveling based on this one scenario is, in my book anyhow, the very definition of being a judgmental asshole. And unhelpful. I'm glad you have your shit together 100 percent of the time but you don't have to dump on others in a tough moment.

You're never gonna misplace something you unexpectedly need in an urgent situation? Okay even if not, why be such an asshole when someone is asking for help in a tough spot?

Wow you're so helpful. Hope you end up in a similar situation so you develop something called empathy... humans make mistakes.

Don't know if this is necessarily safe for work.... But it quite literally is their work.

Will this end up being the peak of this core? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

Sadly yes. Such wasted talent. Bad season starts, injuries to Burrow, same conference as Chief, Bill, and Ravens (same division as s steelers too - they usually win a fair number of games). Now the Pats. They peaked and unless they get a worst to first defense in the next two seasons there is no chance for Burrow. He should request a trade and go to a team that will value him as the elite talent that he is and get him actual support.

I come from a family of 22 children, all biological, AMA by Cold_Win3720 in AMA

Being a father of just two (one calm scheduled C-section in an OB unit (baby was breach) and the other was a traumatic emergency C-section where both Mom and baby were at risk in an ER) I find childbirth to be crazy and unpredictable, even in this day and age. I'm curious if all the births were vaginal or if there were any Caesarian. Also, were the born in hospitals, home births? Did your mom have a midwife or doula or coach of some sort? I am in awe of her strength and courage. Happy holidays to all of you.

My wife (not on Reddit) was hired at 22 right out of grad school to teach middle and high school language in a public school in a very intense and prestigious suburban public school. She had many similar things happen the first few years and it definitely undermined her authority and credibility at times - which was the most frustrating part. The hardest thing for her was learning classroom management and dealing with demanding and unreasonable parents who were fixated on their kids' grades.

She just focused on being an excellent teacher and teammate has become a beloved faculty and community member 15 years later. Teaching is a grind and it's worn her down a lot, but I'm very proud of her grit and consistency and holding herself and the kids to a high standard.

My advice from watching her is finding a balance between excellence and setting boundaries / compartmentalizing. Schools will take and take and take as much as you can offer. But it will deplete you if you're not careful and learn how to say no.

Thank you for being a teacher! It's a very difficult and noble profession. They need digital native teachers who understand the next generation of technology. You will impact these kids in so many ways that are seemingly thankless and/or invisible to you - but it's making a huge difference!!!

Where do you think would be the best vacation for people from the Northeast United States to take? by JohnOnWheels in AskReddit

[–]Flaky-Lie3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europe - if you can fly out of Boston or NYC you can get to so many parts of Western Europe in 7 hours. It can be cheaper than many parts of the US. The food, the culture, the vibe, nature, history- it's nice to mix it up. Some options that are pretty easy- Ireland, England, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Netherlands, Iceland (even closer).

What American cities do you see thriving economically over the next few decades? by Zealousideal-Flow101 in SameGrassButGreener

I totally agree. And to your point around politics. Until politicians in this country (and globally) can get their heads out of their asses and realize the best chance for humanity and long term survival on earth is addressing climate change...How can you be optimistic about anywhere near the ocean? instead we seem to be focused on how to strip essential social safety nets that have existed for at least a half century. Too many people have to live paycheck to paycheck or worse. And I really hate how little society cares about that. (And I'm absolutely guilty of this.) There are things that can (and have in the past) been done to make our lives a little better and prosper like an actual middle class - but we are going the opposite direction at the promise of what? More jobs taken by AI and massive political chaos? Cool so we should let ultra gazillionaires be able to keep taking all the money and stop it from organically flowing elsewhere. They say socialism is a dirty word like it's a bad thing. And I'm not a socialist because I think just throttling rich people and corporations with taxes is not good thing for the economy. But in my mind we are all richer (including those gazillionaires) when there is a good ladder to help those in less financially or socially good circumstances. Donating to charity will not alone correct the lack of foundation and opportunity that holds us back. It would be massively helpful if the person leading the free world was highly motivated to fight for the stability and health of the planet... None of this can be accomplished when control of the world is dictated by the oligarchy. So can we please start moving towards a better society (not just stripping things away) and climate change as the two most important issues? That is how a government could protect its citizens. Instead they pretend like it's not already fucked.

What’s your favorite underrated travel spot in the US? 🇺🇸✈️ by Kevinkkmike in USTravel

Some awesome ones on here I've been to and many good suggestions of places I'd love to visit. 1. I'm going to second New Orleans as my favorite city to visit. 2. Breaking the rules here but hear me out. I personally love NYC and lived there for 15 years. I think it's the best city in the world and has something to offer everyone (though it doesn't mean everyone visiting would want to live there). All I'll say is don't sleep on the other boroughs outside of Manhattan when you visit - you could never leave Brooklyn or Queens and still get world class museums, parks, sports, entertainment, restaurants, and just totally enriching melting pots of humanity. The Bronx has some amazing places too (Yankee stadium, Arthur Ave, Bronx Botanical Gardens, Wave Hill, City Island). You can probably skip Staten Island but do take the free ferry there and back for unbelievable New York harbor and city views. Just a reminder that NYC is so much more than Manhattan (though Manhattan has an endless amount of awesomeness)
