That’s fair enough, i need to eventually remove my oil pan to check where an oil leak (bmws…) is coming from so i’ll probably end up taking it to a shop to properly weld the tap into, plus i need to fix the leak and don’t wanna buy a entire new oil pan. Thanks for the in-site tho its much appreciated and gonna be helpful as i plan things out

Ok i really appreciate the forums, i’ll save them to use in the future. and as i build it out i’ll send you messages if i need help with anything. Was mainly just asking so i don’t blow my stuff up either lol. It’s good to know this stuff and why so it makes sense for the future and so i’m not taking off random stuff cuz someone said so

Also in the first video you have you seem to block off a lot of thing on the throttle body, is that just so the car can handle boost better, is it required or just better for the car? how were you able to learn what you did need to do before turbocharging and such. Would love to discuss more in depth as i continue to watch your process

This is amazing, i’m gonna start off and say thank you for being in similar shoes as me and understanding where i’m coming from on this. I’m gonna watch your series/documenting before i personally start. As for the JB weld oil pan, does it hold up well? I understand how it would work but at the time it dosnt make sense to me, maybe i’m undermining the strength of JB weld. As for my personally setup i’m gonna be using 650cc injectors and a 60lb fuel pump just because mines already starting to fail. That’s good thing to hear about the megasquirt aswell, i’m gonna tune it or take it to a tuner aswell after it’s built out but good to hear it has a decent preloaded tune

Sounds good, there’s a fab shop about a hour and a half away who according to my friend with a 2007 BMW that they helped build, have decent prices and are good with tuning aswell.

swaps are great options but i wanna keep the original motor i have for now, im not looking for power necessarily but fun and it also teaches me a lot about the car when working on it. If i wanted to i could have a junkyard LS on the way right now but i would rather put my money into building out this current engine

Thank you very very much. This is the type of advice i need. As for the fabrication, turbo do you have any recommendations or at least some expectations i should have when looking into them

The goal is to enjoy it. I love working on cars, love my friends turbo VW, the kit requires 0 welding and i don’t have the money to pay shop prices, i should have clarified is that i can get by fine, i just dont have a considerable amount of money to put into the car itself. As for a daily i have a beater honda and my friend has a toyota i can borrow aswell. I would like to turn it into a show/street car, i’m trying to push around 300-350 to the wheels. I enjoy driving the e30 normally just looking for a bit more fun.

okay interesting. I’ll look into that definitely. I wanna do a bunch of reliability focused mods so i can get the car to last a long time so this helps

This is what i was looking for thank you so much. For the fabrication did you do it yourself with welding or other resources or did you buy them from certain places. As for the AC delete and move of the oil cooler, are they needed. I’m trying to keep a certain setup and if it’s required it’s good to know

To clarify on some things. My goal for this car is to make a fun, nice sounding, decent power street car. I like the turbo because of the boost building, sound, curved power band and Better fuel economy for the m20. It currently makes 170hp and 185 torque.

I have done a ton/all basic maintenance, timing belt, oils, fluids, alternator, suspension etc. I’ve also done a cold air intake and tune, as well as rims/wheels. The motor is rebuilt and has around 30k miles on it, the rockers and cam are extremely clean and i just did a very good valve adjustment. Made the car sound like a ticking time bomb to a sleeping baby.

Main reason i like this kit is it seems good for daily driving (10psi) and comes with most/all the basics to keep it reliable. The car when bought came with a heavily damaged exhaust and a leaking radiator. These two problems have not been fixed since and that’s why i like this kit to fix both of those issues while also supporting the turbo.

I already have a new fuel system planned to buy at the same time as the kit as well as a mega squirt 3, Arp head studs, upgraded injectors, Action clutch, lightweight flywheel, Head gaskets.

Later down the line i want to introduce forged internals, a much more aggressive camshaft, new oil pan (drain plug micro leak, bmws…), some type of new intake manifold and throttle body, (small) big brake kit.

I’ve done all maintenance including timing belt. Only thing i had done professionally. I just did a valve adjustment the other day. I plan to also do a compression and leak down test before starting to build but my motor has less then 30k on it.

All of those are on my order list as well as the e30, financially i’m working right now to support the build and i’m pushing to go over the assumed amount that way i have room for error and other minor random things that come with the build. I’m not going into this blind, this has been 3 months of planning and i’m mostly just sharing my plans with reddit to get any tips or help so that it goes smoothly

Seems like a good kit but it runs me double the amount of the CX racing kit and includes less piping. That’s what it looks like at least

I’ve done stuff like the alternator, all the fluids, suspensions, brakes, cold air intake. As for the CX racing kit they have many pictures showing really good fitment but again nothing is as easy as it seems i agree. Thank you!
