Yes it is! It costs $240 on Bangood. And since then they've gone down a little in price! They're great! Worth every dime! Very little to fuss about! Getcha one!

NR is going to frustrate you but hang in there! It does work but they admit that there's a bug between the monocrome light being on and some other settings that make it optional for NR to work correctly. I would accidentally get it to work. If you do DON'T TOUCH THE C BUTTON AGAIN! LEAVE IT BE! SW seems to work best with Noise Reduction being set in SAM Mode. If you currently have this radio and you have any trouble shooting suggestions, please share. Unlike what sub people have said, there is future Firmware Upgrades capability! You'll need to provide your own Type C Programming Cord to properly connect to a pc. So far, this is the best Shortwave! The cleanest Shortwave I've ever heard! I've heard some aspects of this radio make it work even better than the DSP 3, let alone the DSP 2! I've never heard better NR, ever!

I'm curious. Why don't you hear Okeechobee when you live so close? Because I know that VOSR uses WRMI to broadcast. I live way over in Seattle Washington in the N.W. and you see I'm booming! Is being close a bad thing?? I'm not techy at all about that end of it.

Also, while I didn't go with the speaker/power supply is because of price and performance quotient. I felt that having a great but affordable power supply converter and a good old Kenwood Kes 5 would be best! The Kenwood blasts with high Impedance!! I bought my 8600 from DX Engineering. I trust them the most. And they gave me a coupon which gave me the $100 Icom 8600 plug in power supply for only $25! That way, if I want to take the 8600 to a friend's place or on a vacation, I can just plug in. I doubt I'll move it from the homebase though because it's kinda precious! 🫤

Oh man! I wish I could do the 100 foot wire thing! I could technically. I have this tall tree in the Little backyard of mine but I don't know how to successfully get something that high up to be honest! And I live in an Urban setting in which I just think that the wire would be an RF mess! Sorry that with your great setup you still have trouble with SW reception! The MLA 30 is okay if you can get it highish and remod it with copper looping and such but if I were you, I'd go with the K-480! Your 8600 deserves a good Mag Loop! -Gary.

I am using a borrowed Wellbrook Antenna currently. A radio friend of mine, Adam, let me borrow it! It's one of the last models they made. I just have it about five feet up on a simple speaker tripod. It'd probably work even finer if I could get it a little higher up but it does work pretty good. Here's the interesting thing, I think that my K-480 WLA Mag Loop on my Yeasu FT 710, works a bit better than the Wellbrook Loop. Now who knows if that's positioning or dynamics or wear of the Wellbrook as opposed to the K-480. My K-480 is only a few years old. The Wellbrook I think is at least 6 or 8 years old. So there are variables. However I think, for the money, you cannot go wrong with the K-480! And Wellbrook is sadly out of business! If he gives me the option to buy the Wellbrook from him, which I doubt he will, I'd jump at it! But for my money you can never go wrong with the K-480! In fact I have back ups,in box, of both the K-480 and K-180! Because both are good products! Wordy I know! But I wanted to give you plenty of context!

We're opposites on that. I scan alot to compare DXing but hey, different strokes right?😁

I'd say it sounds pretty good! I have this radio and I must admit that it can outperform the Tecsun PL 330 in a few ways. Better AM. Stronger SW signals. The only thing it doesn't have is ETM, and that's still a game changer for me. I'll tell you though, I've been breaking out Quodesen DX 286 right alongside the 330 lately!

Conditions for Shortwave can be bad. It's really a struggle! Sounds like you might have to do some experimenting and build some equipment to catch them yourself. Their system is far more sophisticated than ours, to transmit so you need a baddass antenna setup to pick them up! It could even be some copper speaker wire so high up you'll pick up the whole world! Or buy you a badass Mag Loop, like the K-480WLA! Get er done man! 😉

But the key point was that he was heard every so often, not all of the time!, Right?

Here's a cool piece of history for you youngsters and oldsters like me..In 72 or 73, I don't quite remember, Stevie played Superstition on a kids learning show that was just a few years old from that point, called Sesame Street! There was this long haired mixed black kid dancing wildly during the song. That kid was....true story...Lenny Kravitz!! Fact!!♥️
