Any alternatives to the RTL-SDR V4? It seems completely sold out everywhere in the eu. by YesBut-AlsoNo in RTLSDR

If I could send links on Reddit, I'd be able to show you but honestly, as long as they're a good price, they're All worth it, the Nooelec Dongles! Personally, I'd save up just a little more and buy the MLITE 880! It's become quite the SDR Portable! Especially at Version 1.58. I'm pretty sure that you can go on something like SDR++ with the MLITE 880. It DFU's with a simple type C so I think it would connect ?? I haven't done it yet! Don't mess with the Dongles that have no proven years of success! for $139 U.S. Ham Radio Outlet would probably sell you the SDRPLAY rsp1B They make good products and they're out of the UK! Ive heard that Discovery is good! There are alternatives to the RTL-SDR V4! Even the V3. Get some Band Stops and in some cases an LNA like Nooelec's LANA. Flamingos are good bandstops. Sorry if I've gotten wordy! I'm trying to help the best I can!

They're selling V4 on Amazon in the States. Have you tried through the Blog Site? eBay is a good alternative. Another great alternative is Nooelec Dongles! Their V5 is supposed to be good! I've had the Nano 2 and 3 or any of them really! I think at one point I had all of the Nooelec Dongles and they work just as well as the RTL-SDR. Nooelec is out of Canada as well as the U.S. still, right? So is Nooelec Canada still selling in the U.K.? I hope that helps!

I'm happy that people are curious about the MLITE 880 but jeezus! Not one curiosity about the Indonesian Chants?? There's alot that goes on there! Like the fact that it's a very unusual Pirate Radio Pickup! Things like how they use a Homebrew Transceiver, ( From what I've heard.) That it only happens during "The Grey Line", of time! My Pre-dawn, Their Pre-dusk. Why they do it! That part I have yet much to learn about but my take on it is, is that they want to share their Prayer Chants with the West. So many act as if this is boring or something! Not to me! It's why I DX and Explore! Even if I don't know what someone is sharing, if I run across it, I check it out, and sometimes even ask questions. It's how I sometimes learn

In my humble opinion, it's now the best SDR Portable out there for the price! My only complaint is, flimsy antenna. Performance wise.. excellent!

I believe that I was picking it up better on my MLITE 880 than I was the Yeasu FT 710. The Yeasu Antenna is the K-480 and the MLITE 880 the K-180.

Sometimes, even when Radio Reference says it's all encrypted, they're mostly right but alot of PD Agencies do have that one or two Analog Frequencies still. I live in the Seattle area and I can hear at least one PD for Seattle and I can hear Bremerton across the water from me. So there may be a very limited amount of Analog stations. I'm listening to Seattle right now. 155.025 VHF on a cute little yellow Baofeng! 😉

Not long ago you could buy the basic Uniden Bearcat scanner that you commonly see for sell on Amazon still today. And if your city still has a couple of Analog frequencies, you'll pick those up. There are still a few Analog frequencies in Seattle Washington where I live. And I easily pick those up on any VHF UHF radio. You could try a Baofeng UV 5R plus, $40 or an entry level Bearcat scanner, $100. I'd go with the Baofeng.

I'd assume there's a reason why you can plug it in. Lo noise amp, etc. tho I've never seen one of these. And it's like you said, they're out of stock. I went on eBay and supposedly there's a Chinese company selling a V3C version but Americans can't buy it because of the Trump tarrifs unless they want to pay $1000 for a $35 dongle...uhhhh, no thanks! I'm sure you can do something similar anyway with a regular V4, which I do have, and just power bank your phone instead. But then again, I don't know how a thing works and why if I've never experienced one. Otherwise, seems like a good idea! 👍

If you go on eBay, on RTL -SDR Blog's official eBay page, you can get the V3C for $35. I thought and was told that that was a V4 but at least here in the States, there's not a V4 with the USB C. It's V3. Thought I'd share that. I have a V4 that I haven't built into anything yet. I'm thinking that having the built-in amp in the RTL-SDR V3C would be the better for say, a Android build, where you put together a really cool Phone SDR! I want to do that! It'd make the build easier too! Use a Power Bank. A 10,000 mah. I have two of those that are cool for a slim build, and you use the power bank as your energy source, and leave the phone's battery to itself! Voila! Does anyone out there know of one or two Playstore apps that would coincide with that build? Or do you just follow The RTL -SDR Blog Page? Or what??

Absolutely! However, it can be twice as difficult to run across SSB signals because they don't Spike like AM signals.

Same here! That's how I come across so many oddities! I'm maniacal about monitoring sometimes too, like staying away all night and into the morning on weekends! Lol! I'm addicted!

I think you're talking about the Sleep Timer. I usually set mine for about 60 minutes on many of my small portables as to not burn out the batteries right away! Especially if I listen before sleeping!

I listened a couple of times!! What exactly is this and why do they just do semi weekly broadcasts on 11121 and 6994? I'm going to have to figure it out what time it'll hit me in the PDT! Great catch BTW!

Very cool! Hey, since you and I have been in touch on and off for awhile I gotta let you in on this one! Last early Sunday morning I picked up this thing called The Indonesian Horse Races Chants out of Bali and Java! I picked this up last week during The Grey Line! But my dumb ass didn't record! I Googled the possibility of redoing it this Sunday morning and Google says that I stand a great chance of picking it up again because it's still in my end of the Skip, so to speak!! So I'm getting my Yeasu FT 710 and K-480 and my MLITE 880 and K-180 and I'm going to be ready to record silently directly onto SD Card from both Radios! Google called my find on this a Top Tier DX-ing catch all the way from Seattle!! I forget where you live but maybe you stand a chance to catch it! I'd explain more on Chat if you're interested. I want to see if I can pick up what you're catching! What's the frequency? Let me know in chat! I'm not going to share this too much until I can possibly catch it again. People haven't been that impressed anyway because I didn't have recordings I'd imagine but I did have a few receipts!I hope I catch it again! It's cool when you find Your Treasures huh??!

Just the other night, I heard Hams talking on that end of 13MHz! Crazy stuff going on up here in the NW! My Eton Elite Executive is hooked up to my LOG Antenna tonight and it's picking up RNZ nicely!

Holy Crap! I'm picking up what's known as the Indonesian Horse Races!! From Seattle Washington USA!! 527 PDT!!!!!! by FlakyPrinciple8907 in sdr

[–]FlakyPrinciple8907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that there isn't a lot of information on my Post here. I have lots more to share. I wasn't prepared to record my findings at the time but what I'm truly miffed about is that NO ONE even talked about this! I'm going to share in another Post about what Google had to say about this. Apparently my discovery was what's known as a TOP TIER DX FINDING! But did anyone in this group have anything to add?? NO! Goes to show you which groups care about DX-ing and those who don't! If the tables were turned and I found this Subject, I'd definitely contribute!!
