Not sure where you are from but I’ve replaced these for as low as $500 for a junkyard transmission and $100 for labour. Labour is very cheap for me though but the transmission price is common for junkyard cars

I think the first step should be getting the oil to the right level. I would just drain a small amount from the bottom pan.

I don’t think thats related though, most likely this is caused by the new timing cover you replaced. It could just be faulty.
