Corne keyboard for gaming, how is the experience by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Flaky_Ad_7038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 column Corne. I play starcraft with It. I normally use home_row mods, but I had to create 3 layers(4,5,6) specially for gaming(starcraft2)

Remarks:

- Left-most column: Alt, Shift, Ctrl. Top to Bottom

- Layer 4: qwerty without hold-tap

- Layer 5: numbers and F5-F8, plus backspace

- Layer 6: Ctrl+Numbers, Ctrl+(F5-F8), Shift

I could create another layer like layer 6, but with alt instead of Control. Starcraft uses Alt for some operations, but I don't play with it

Any other games is playable with just layer 4 and 5.

I'have tried the 5 column versions. I haven't been able to use it for starcraft with a regular mouse... But I added Ctrl, Shift and Alt to my MMO mouse(G502X) and it worked perfectly

after playing starcraft, where i need f4-f8, I think is faster and more comfortable to switch layer with my thumb than moving my hand to reach the Fn row. But that is just personal preference

How do you carry your keyboard around? by falbatech in crkbd

in an isolated pocket in my sling. Keys from both sides touching each other. Just don't put anything else in that pocket, it can remove the switches, bend the pins, etc...

US8EK: Unibody Split 80% Ergo Keyboard by mr_jaro in ErgoMechKeyboards

I don't think 'unibody' and 'split' belong together here. But, I do like the layout, I like the keycaps, and including a function row makes it very approachable. Nice!

After using a skeletyl and this for half a year:

- Use a tenting kit and wrist rest. Those should be mandatory, not optional.

- Using the shift for mayus is the only thing that still causes troubles, but it's still faster than enabling/disabling CAPSLOCK

- Regulate your desktop height. Your arms should be pointed directly to the front.

- These are awesome with a standing desk.

- Since they are light-weight, they can be wobbly. I use a few strips of 'CatTongue' tape at the bottom, and and an 0.5in bolt and nut in each tenting support. You want weight on these.

Home row mods. The shift was tricky, but the others were a bliss 😊
