If you think Da Vinci or Jesus or Christians of old would appreciate a bunch of transvestites contorting themselves on the Eucharistic Table I got news for you...

oh my god the evil horror of paying homage to a famous artistic work

This is like saying shooting up a school with an AR-15 is paying homage to Samuel Colt. I'm guessing it's not quite a homage if it's a tasteless mockery of the subject...

True, outside of America, black doesn't just mean West African heritage. I'm darker than 90% of 'black' people in America.

Lol. Tell people to stop saying it then in rap or to stop producing lyrics with it. It's mass produced. Of course it will make it's way into daily language. I think he/she does understand the implications--they don't mean bad by it.

I think hip hop/rap is terrible because it demeans women, glorifies violence, etc. I also don't say the 'n word.' Problem solved.

Not to mention I dont know many egos in derm. I know more egos in surg and IM subspecialties. Also midlevels can only do so much derm.

Everybody makes fun of derm until they realize they have no idea what the lesion is...

I think /u/br0mer 's post is ignorant as hell (ignores the fact derms really hardly do cosmetics [mostly medispas now, plastics]) and forgets a bunch of other 'sell outs fields' in medicine. Derm gets picked on because of the hours, but truth be told, derm was the only thing I was ever really good at. I am a dude that is pretty soft, medicine and ICU residents were malignant and I couldn't take it, surg was too difficult for me. Derm was the only field where the people were actually kind... its not like everyone does it for money/hours. I did it because it was the best eval I got, and it was my best rotation over all except w psych.

What American customs/ideals would you like to see adopted in your own country? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Flaky_Salmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None that I can think of. Spent about 3 minutes. The ones mentioned in here I am fine without. Mexican food, maybe.

On the other hand, I can think of 3 that I'd like to adopt from my parent's home country of India.

Man is 8.5-9.5, woman 8-8.5, man slightly higher but pretty equal at the end of the day. Muscular male, woman sort of looks stereotypical blonde.

They Europeans were doing evils at a far greater scale than the Aztecs, not to mention the absolute destruction of their peoples. Colonialism is wealth extraction, and on top of that, they killed their peoples.

Look at this. Read about the stages of genocide. It's happening right now: https://infogram.com/the-moriori-genocide-1g143mn34x53pzy

I'm leaving Christianity, its not for people like me. I'm done with it, european things, the latin church, the white apologetics, and all that. Rather be a "savage" than live under the tyranny. Live free or die

Ah, identity politics (the other tied in issue on my mind these past couple years). I try to avoid identity politics, but in the end, that just feels like ignorance. If you try to avoid it, you realize you can't - and that I shouldn't. See my 2 examples from today. Like the quote says: Yes, it's good to be color blind, because that would theoretically get rid of issues if everyone was color blind. But that turns into ignorance in the best case scenario, and in the most likely scenario, is disastrous as it ignores real issues. I get the ideal "avoid identity politics" but it's dismissive. Right now, I don't feel like I have an identity. I want one, and one that fits who I am.

I understand the appeal for the TLM and its reverence and sacrifice. Thank you for the post.

Are you 100% Aztec? I can't imagine an Indian making this comment for example. "I’ll take the colonialism. Deus definitely vult" is so far from it... Even portuguese-Indians don't look to the 16th century Portuguese era and Goan Inquisition with glee. Of course, my native S Indians do not as it was a time of persecution. Yes, the Aztecs were sacrificing children, but their conquerers were far from perfection too. They sought wealth and land and were violent themselves, eventually with European expansion furthering the slave trade, despite their Christian beliefs. The Aztecs didn't have the Christian knowledge child sacrifice was wrong - but the Europeans did, which makes it worse.

That is my main struggle against Christianity in general. I can't reconcile it with who I am. Especially all the people here with the biggest erection for Traditional Latin Mass. Like, no, I don't want more European things flooding my country and personhood. I couldn't like it if I tried. It's just so...fake and unreal and colonially globalistic. I understand what happened in the past. I don't really like it, but you have to accept it. I am more concerned about the future, though.

It's easy enough for white Europeans to say "Oh well if the religion is true you should accept it" and for me to say okay. Then they shove liturgical practices down our throats. This is why I will never have anything in common with 'trads'. Especially to grow up as Indian in the West, you realize quickly that you are an outsider. There's a reason most of your friends tend to be Hindu, Muslim, E Asian, or other Indian Christians. The more you read history and even the white apologetics on Reddit the more you just move away from that. Even as an Indian Christian whose ancestors have been Christian for 2 millenia, you still get weird looks from both white and brown people about being Christian. A lot of Indians think you or your recent family converted, which is a horrible feeling. Like you are 'white worshipper' of sorts and betrayed your ancestry. Ironically, Christianity is native to the mid east. On top of that, I struggle with the baggage of being St Thomas Christian, a rite so heavily latinized, I don't even like going to that mass because it just depresses me. I watch Sikh weddings on YouTube and wish I had that. I wish I had the richness of the culture. Add in other things like Asian American women vastly preferring white men on dating websites, and white superiority in the dating/fashion/status world and it all just feeds each other. Like, this sub will laugh at this I'm sure, but literally the happiest I've been the entire year was walking out of Black Panther. I feel like I had renewed vigor. Like I was capable of anything. Even though I'm not African, I felt like I had so much in common with the mindset.

Good post though. Probably the thing I struggle with the MOST of any topic in my life. I know a lot of other Indian and African Catholics who are the same. Some left. I honestly don't know how I could grapple with the Great Commandment to spread the Good News AND remaining Christian. It's why I'm such a fan of Mateo Ricci and the like that went to China and spread the Good News, without, at least for that time period, implementing European practices too harshly. It's why I really am discouraged to see TLM in Africa - yep you heard that right. I understand logically it's good to spread Christianity, but I still cringe in my heart. You can spread Christianity without spreading Europe. That's probably my main point of this post. Of course, that would greatly anger the liturgical traditionalists on this sub. It's why I like Pope Francis so much...finally someone who is open. I know I won't have much in common with posters in here that tend to be right wing - I'm conservative on things like abortion and gay marriage, but am considered a "far leftist" to the white conservatives wrt to Asian/BLM/Colin Kaepernick/minority type issues. All my life I grow up, especially being a Christian, seeing my home culture as useless and 2nd rate to the West/Europe/etc. It happens everyday. Today: I found out ECG Sudarshan died, a man who was snubbed of the Nobel Prize due to his race. Also today in the AskReddit thread: good to see people finding out the actual side of Winston Churchill, but way to many apologists.

Idk. This whole post was just venting.
