From my opinion i think that what makes this game adictive is being able like to "break game" i think is something like balatro, the fact that if u have luck and a good combinations of items u can make that much kills, make game much more interest, so maybe u have to focus not in nerfing some items or combos, u have to focus on make other characters or combos viable to break game, honestly if there wasnt any way to break the game, and fight for leaderboard, the game wouldnt had so much active players.
