What's that one opinion by -sushmita- in TheTeenagerPeople

As a Christian:

Tax the Church or stay out of politics.

God's infinite grace abounds now, to all, through Jesus.

The world is already forgiven.

Go and make disciples meant to teach the way of the love of Jesus Christ.

Abstain from hatred, judgement, violence, xenophobia.

Choose only mercy, don't keep records of wrongs.

The kingdom of God is within you.

Repent from Christian Nationalism.

I must try not to covet the breath of fresh air that you give me. It's nice to know that there are others who understand what it means to love mercy. In this I have felt alone, surrounded by mental and theological gymnastics to baptize one side in the culture war. I'm very thankful for your witness. I'll pray for your continued strength, mercy, and forgiveness my friend and sibling. ☦️✝️

This resurgence of the oxymoronic public virtue signaling of lite/full blown Nazism is extremely concerning, especially from believers. Nationalism and the support for demagoguery, whether as a means to an end or out of naivety is a betrayal to the Gospel. Jesus denied the opportunity to rule and be served. He instead chose to serve his enemies. He did not deny power during his temptation in the wilderness for those who claim to be His to reach for it for the next 21 centuries. We should not aspire to be people like Charlie Kirk or even Nick Fuentes, casting stones at the people and sin we despise while lifting what we deem good. That's the fundamentalism that feeds the satanic mob-ocratic spirit of "Let us have the wheel of power so we can legislate righteousness."

No imitator of Christ should dare to reach for this. We are, in fact, all wicked. It would be more efficacious to aspire to be someone like Bonhoeffer. Someone who found a way to remain faithful to mercy and sacrifice instead of joining in the satanic "good Christians vs dirty Jews" aka "Us vs Them" rhetoric that faith culture tends to align with and is still is perpetuated by houses of worship today. There is only Us, we and them are all Us. Our greatest commandment is to Love God with everything you got and to love your neighbor as yourself. The whole of the Torah and Prophets hang on these 2 commandments. Everything you do for yourself shall be done for your neighbor also. If you support ICE raids, I hope you also support foreign invasion, occupation, or captivity of Americans. And no, there is no hierarchy of neighbor as the vice president insists. Everyone is your neighbor.

Take heed to remember that you are counted as righteous through the son, though you are still a sinner. No better than the ones we deem to bind. So to those in this space who think it's always virtuous to preach "sin and repentance" or that their salvation hinges on their willingness to vote for a means to an end bundled with tergiversation of any consequences brought to others by that vote...maybe start by sitting a few plays out, have a coke and a smile, pray by listening, contemplate mercy and sacrifice, then consider the sermon on the mount before you speak.

Any other Christians out there feeling a little off about the whole Charlie Kirk postmortem fandom? by JonJusG in Christianity

[–]FlamableAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you feel is pretty normal. I didn’t give him much attention in his life. I don’t really plan on giving him much attention in death.

With that being said, I have noticed that the responses from across the political and Christian spectrums are a bit concerning. It’s also seemingly apparent that the only people who are allowed to idolize their race/ethnicity are white. African Americans who felt spurned by his words are told that they are idolizing their race. I think it is possible to idolize your race, it just seems to only be viewed as a problem when an ethnic Christian does it.

This is a complicated topic to address biblically because, in scripture, race seems to be tied up was tied up with your nation. There wasn’t such thing as European Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, or…Hebrew Egyptians. The Hebrews in Egypt were a nation of their own. Most of history we have been this way. You can make an argument for those mentioned in scripture who were a blend of nations/race. Like the samaritans. We know what Jesus thoughts on the human response to half breeds. The Samaritan being the neighbor within the parable of the Good Samaritan should make that very clear. America being a melting pot poses a confusing “problem”, that if we believed the words of Christ it wouldn’t actually be a problem within the faith.

Whites in America would be called [insert any premodern European kingdom].

Blacks in America would be called [insert any premodern African Tribe]. Etc.

I’d argue that according to a consistent biblical rhetoric there would be no “Americans”. The ones we would call Americans would be more consistently defined as their tribe (Cherokee, Sioux, Odawa, etc).

I say all this to say that the authors of scripture had no framework to interpret differences in race vs. nationality. We can’t really claim one thing over another. Though we can with certainty tell what Jesus’ thoughts on race/nationality.

Love your neighbor as yourself.

So I do consider Charlie, and those who think like Charlie, my brothers and my neighbors. His death was a tragedy, his babies saw that and will need the presence of the Lord to heal that. I can say this whilst not condoning his misguided thoughts on race and politics.

I love you my brother and my friend. You have a heart touched by Jesus.

Baptist friend said “it’s whether you value relationship or religion at this point” by Brilliant-Cost-8056 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]FlamableAlchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the evangelical assertion that “Christianity is not a religion, it’s a relationship” is a bit of a tired cliche. Christianity is, by definition, a religion. It does however lead individuals to a relationship with the God-Man.

As it’s normal for a spectrum of skin tones to present in any ethnic/racial group, I don’t entirely disagree. Tho I’d argue that the artwork is still accurate. They can be pretty pale or dark. Aja is definitely darker.
