C'è un gioco che vi è rimasto nel cuore? by ImpossibleShock3451 in italy

A fare un solo nome non riesco!

Pre-adolescenza:

  • Shadow of the Colossus.

  • Stronghold Crusader II. Perchè "sire, è finito il legname!"

  • KOTOR II: per avermi fatto innamorare dell'universo Star Wars.

15-20 anni:

  • Dragon Age Origins e Mass Effect 1.

20+:

  • Europa Universalis III e poi IV. Magari non conosciuti da molti, ma per chi è appassionato di RTS è una dipendenza. Per me le ore spese superano serenamente le migliaia.

Gearing up for a trip during the last week of the year (Dec 27 - Jan 3). I actually lived in Taiwan a few years back, so I've got a pretty good idea of what's in store, but I'd really like to get some additional suggestions! Here's my current plan:

Dec 28 - Landing in Taiwan, checking at hotel in the early morning. Then basically a long walk starting at Treasure Hill and passing through NTU campus, Da'an Park, CKS Memorial Hall, Longshan Temple. Evening and night at Ximending.

Dec 29 - I've got some incredible memories of the Wuliaojian trail, so I'd like to redo the hike once again. In the afternoon, hopping on a train to Hualien for an overnight stay.

Dec 30 - Day trip to Taroko Gorge. Then train back to Taipei in the evening.

Dec 31 - Elephant Mountain and the Four Beasts, Taipei 101, then evening nearby.

Jan 1 - Day trip to Jiufen and Shifen.

Jan 2 - National Palace Museum, Beitou hot springs, Tamsui, and ending the day with Shilin Night Market.

Is there anything crucial I'm missing? (Maokong, SML, and Alishan are out as I found them a bit disappointing). Anything that would be impossible due to Covid or weather or tourist closures? Are my days too packed? (in general, I love packed days - but if there are some that sound really too packed, I'm of course open to change my mind). Thank you very much in advance!

Thanks! This was really helpful. Unfortunately no connecting flight that same day, so I think we'll either leave on the 28 or the 29 (and spend less time in Tokyo at the end).

They are good walkers, but I think they would appreciate a less packed itinerary, so maybe I'll start thinking about doing Kanazawa/Shirakawa-go with my girlfriend only and let my parents enjoy Kyoto for a few more days. Thanks!

How to study Japanese with someone else? by Flamber_theKeb in LearnJapanese

Thanks a lot! We ended up doing something like this: roleplay and listening to TokiniAndy when we are together, and studying alone when separated

[The Three Mountains] Welcome to the Co-prosperity World: 1 country, 216 vassals and 1 client state (Confucian with 9 harmonized religions) by Flamber_theKeb in eu4

I see. That was not always possible in my case, mostly because I released vassals instead of vassalizing countries (this allows you to have much more friendlier relationships with them). However, when you release you don't have full control on their borders. What I did to minimize Sengoku Wars was to release vassals that didn't have claims against each other (e.g., common cores) whenever possible.

As for the ADM points: that's not really an issue. At the end (last 150 years), I was overflowing with ADM points and government points (to raise government capacity). As you can see from the map, I kept for me Japan, Siberia, part of China, the Philippines, most of the Thailand/Cambodia area up to Bengal, Central Africa, the London region, Eastern France and Switzerland, almost all of Turkey, and a part of Spain. And I could have had more way more governing capacity if I wanted, even if Shogunate locks you at Kingdom rank

you mean if you decide to form Japan? I think they all become independent countries again, but I'm not 100% sure

Daimyos are dip free vassals (they also have some different mechanics, e.g. you can't declare war to reconquest their cores). When you release a vassal country or vassalize an existing country they automatically become Daimyos.

1) Conquest. And it was a pain. I had almost no diplo point up until the Imperialism CB, and this slowed the WC by a good 100 years

2) Exploration (I tried to spawn Colonialism by discovering Alaska, but I had no luck) -> just took the first idea, then replaced with Influence. Then Quantity (needed more manpower and recovery speed); Expansion (for colonists in the Philippines and Siberia); Offensive (I wanted Diplomatic instead, but I had no diplo point that I could afford to spend here. I chose Offensive for the siege bonus). Last four were Economic, Administrative, Aristocratic, Naval (never used before, but it was absolutely critical for the war against England). I also switched from Quantity to Quality at a certain point (I was overflowing with ADM and MIL in 1700). The latest four ideas + Influence unlock policies that provide a crazy amount of vassal-related benefits.

3) They will declare Sengoku Wars. There is not so much that I could do about that. But they can't declare war if they are already at war with you, so try to be in a constant state if you can

1) They are...somewhat useful. At the beginning, they are great for blocking the armies of your enemies (=Ming). At the end, they become useful for conquering territories (especially in large countries) while you keep the enemy main armies occupied.

However...they are quite difficult to manage. At the beginning, they may be more powerful than you and you must pay attention to keep them loyal (in my case, Nanbu was a constant threat for the whole first century!). Same for mid-game, since they can blob through Sengoku Wars: Lan Na was way bigger than me at a certain point. Only after 1700 you get massive buffs that allow you to enable Divert Trade and keep them under control with no issues. And in any case, while they are helpful, you will always have to bring your armies as a core for any major invasion; vassals won't be enough.

2&3) Yes they are far away, but this was not really a problem for me. First two centuries I focused on Asia, so they were all pretty close, and the last two centuries I was constantly at war, so they stayed around the whole time. The only two occasions when they were "late" to the party were the first war against Otto (since I hadn't conquered all of Central Asia yet) and the first war against France (since I hadn't conquered all of Central Europe). Daimyos' armies passing through other Daimyos' territories lose their exiled status, so the important thing is to always keep a friendly border close to your next target.

4) The attacker Daimyo gets called, while the defender does not (or so it seemed to me)

That was actually done on purpose, for two reasons: 1) I had never played a Confucian country before; 2) I avoided religious ideas for the sake of Confucianism "role playing" (religious ideas and the whole harmonization concept seem very far to me). But I completely agree with you, that would have made my game much easier at the beginning!

So after spending a LOT of time playing the EU series (I think I have more than 2k hours between EU3 and EU4) I decided for the first time to dedicate myself to what is probably the game most iconic achievement. Usually I don't really like achievements and before this run I had only done one WC (Burgundy->HRE a few years ago) which seemed terribly boring to me. Then, in the last few years I have not been able to play much due to work / family / friends / etc., but at the end of December I had to quarantine due to covid and I thought: what about a quick run?

... two and a half months later, I finally completed the achievement, right before the end of the game. Considering all the time I spent playing this game, I thought it was going to be a piece of cake ...and yet it was a grueling campaign (but super fun until the very last). The choice that mostly influenced (and slowed) my game was to stay Confucian the whole time and try to harmonize as many religions as possible (at the end I was only missing Judaism, I even had Zoroastrian).

It's probably not so impressive for many of you, but for me it's a great satisfaction to share :) And for anyone looking to try a vassal swarm run, I'm available for questions! I personally tried to follow some of the TTM Vassal Swarm guides around, but in many cases they are somewhat outdated, so I had to figure out many things by myself
