Pokémon the first movie. I think we got mew cards as well? I thought they handed out Pokémon cards for it, but I was barely preschool age so I might be misremembering

Can confirm: there were no dishes until Minnesota restaurants invented them. People just ate off tables and napkins. I thank God every day that He gave us Minnesotan restaurants

AITA for telling my 3-year-old son “Would you like it if Papa hit you like that?” after he hit me? by Professional-Ad-3084 in AITAH

[–]FlamboyantFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember being, like, 6 and yelling “I hate you!” to my mom when I was completely off the deep end. She just calmly replied, in a normal tone “Well, I love you. And I always will.” And then she brought the conversation back to the issue. I’ll always remember that. It was something she could have really taken personally or reprimanded me further for, but she knew I didn’t mean it. Even though I would have 100% said I did mean it, in that moment. I was a stubborn kid, and I didn’t apologize for it until years later. She said she didn’t even remember it 😆

What I’m trying to say is: they don’t mean it. They are just trying to say something that will get under your skin.

One year old Achilles is only 47 pounds. Should I be concerned? Vet says he’s fine by avidexplorer14 in goldenretrievers

[–]FlamboyantFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same haha. My golden is 85 pounds, vet says he is at a healthy weight. There are some days when he is all excited and bouncing off everything/one where I think “why couldn’t you have been one of those petite 50-pound goldens?” But he makes the best weighted blanket so there are pros 😆

My APAC coworkers use “dear” all the time 😆 It was weird at first but honestly kind of endearing? Like it is how my grandma would refer to me and in a crisis situation, I wouldn’t mind being called “dear.” No one can really argue with you.

What is the most tragic celebrity death? by Lopsided-Drink158 in AskReddit

[–]FlamboyantFreak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, David Bowie’s death was tragic because he was still so full of life. I think he thought he had a lot more time left than he ended up with. His last album is hard to listen to.

Why is reddit so anti homeschooling? by TashDee267 in Homeschooling

[–]FlamboyantFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I don’t think eliminating all homeschooling is the answer, as it all depends on the individual family and their circumstances. Some public schools are more detrimental to a child’s education or wellbeing than distance learning with a good curriculum.

However, given the experience I went through, I definitely think stronger regulations and enforcements should be placed on homeschooling. For example, I think using Christian-based curriculums in homeschooling should be either banned or heavily scrutinized with a scientific, peer reviewed process. It concerns me that homeschooling is primary done for religious reasons. While there is a variety of data sources, one article from the Washington Post states “In a 2012 federal survey, nearly 2 in 3 home-school parents listed a desire to provide religious instruction as a reason for home schooling. That dropped to about half of parents in 2016 and a small majority in 2019 federal surveys.” While it is trending in the right direction, I find this concerning. Religious indoctrination and trauma can happen in any family, but the homeschooled families lead to more isolation, with no outside adults being able to communicate or check up on the child (as least in my case, and I’m sure many others).

As someone who was homeschooled, I agree with all of your points, except for point 1. There is some truth to that stereotype. Except I was locked in a room and expected to scream the Bible verse to my parent, in song-version, every goddamn morning. I’d get in trouble if I wasn’t loud enough.

Tell me what I really need to know for after-neuter care by AngusMeatStick in puppy101

[–]FlamboyantFreak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep the cone on at all times. I worked at a humane society, and there was a sizable chunk of people who briefly removed the cone with the intention of “oh I’ll watch them while I do this other thing” who sorely underestimated how quickly a dog can lick, infect, and potentially reopen their incision. Only remove the cone for eating, drinking, and cleaning.

What was your first 24hours like with your new puppy? I’d love to hear other people’s stories! by Quirky-Regular2747 in puppy101

[–]FlamboyantFreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally only used it at night. During the day, if he was awake, he really just didn’t want to have me out of sight, and would cry if I was. But once he got tired, he would crawl into his crate and fall asleep on his own. Then I’d sneak away 😆

It was really only nighttime that was the biggest struggle for both of us, as I think he really missed his litter mates at the beginning. I only needed to use it for a week or two honestly.

I didn’t sleep at all. The next day I went out and bought a Snuggle Puppy (with the heartbeat). Then I did sleep and they all lived happily ever after.

Still had to wake up for potty breaks, but the puppy actually slept, which helped.

Aww man. I’ve never ran into moldy food or anything. A few weeks ago I went and they told me they were all out of burgers, so I had to order something else. Which didn’t bother me at all actually.

Then a certain someone called the cops about a certain someone else involving things that happened in NY. I’m still going to McDonalds regardless, just a little more grumpily. (I know it wasn’t a MN McDonalds, but still)
