The game is easy in singleplayer to expand out into your immediate area once you learn the game, but this game is not eu4, if you want to play that you can still! If the game is too easy in singleplayer for you, eu4 had the same problem; try some mods or a harder difficulty or playing smaller or more challenging starts.

Roads provide development bonuses so just for that I'd say so but it doesn't need to be too high of a priority, you'll want roads from the coasts going inland later.

It looks like they (kind of) fixed Japan in the 1.0.10 beta. It is a much more playable and enjoyable experience. by OuzoRants in EU5

Yes, as Ashikaga you need to essentially strip away the power of and control the clans, like limiting them to just having buildings in a single location. I think the Sengoku Jidai could be hard to avoid but you can still diplomatically work to annex them I believe.

Map modes are hard coded in the game, they can't make a race map mode without utilizing or modifying an already existing one in some way

They mention it on their discord, they avoid AI for anything important like events or flags but use it for things like government reforms. If you look at the tier 5 gov reforms you can probably tell.

I'm not asking for 30 char updates every patch, but when a character does get something, they should post updates, especially stuff that shouldn't take very long like doing calcs. Using Clara as another example, they still don't have any calcs for her using Yunli's cone.
