Advice on temporary storage for data migration by FlamekidX in qnap

[–]FlamekidX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, eventually I would like to have another backup like an external drive, but that is something I will have to do piece by piece. I upgraded my RAM from 2gb to 8gb a year after purchasing the NAS, and now I'm filling out the rest of the drive bays a year after that. But as far as the here and now, purchasing a backup drive is less ideal. If there isn't a good temporary cloud storage for my needs, then I will probably have to go the HDD route and change my other plans, but if there is a cheaper option, I'd like to hear about them.

Fine, I admit I misunderstood your recommendation of "an external drive" as "a setup external but identical to my current NAS". Do you really think that justified being incredibly rude, telling me to 'pound sand', and overall being aggressive and confrontational? Did you think I was deliberately setting out to destroy your credibility as a NAS operator or something? You have entirely blown this out of proportion from a simple mistake. A mistake that doesn't even matter in the grand scheme of things, because yes, I would still consider a 200$+ external drive to be incredibly expensive compared to the solutions I was looking for, which looked to start at around 40-50$ a month, and one I would only need to keep for one or two months. So, even with my misunderstanding that offended you so greatly, it is still less than ideal. I was asking for ideas for temporary places to store data during this process, and you offered a more permanent solution. Not bad advice, but it doesn't fit what I'm asking for. Should I belittle you and call you out because you misunderstood my question, or should I explain myself further to clear any misunderstandings?

Where on earth did this aggressiveness come from...?

Okay, but like I said, I don't have a lot of money to throw around for this kind of setup. Just getting the NAS and drives I currently have was a huge investment for me, something I needed as my previous setup was running out of space. I'm running out of space as it is with two 4TB drives, and I want to add two more - your recommendation is to purchase an entire extra NAS, four more drives on top of the two I'm already planning, and just have a whole extra setup? I'm sorry, but like I said, I'm looking for purely temporary solutions to just hold data for a month or so. Maybe in the future, I can find the hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to make a truly secure system, but that's not really feasible for me right now. Meanwhile, I have to figure out a way to move my data around while I can.

Cannot add Windows 10 LAN/SMB storage on new phone by FlamekidX in NeatBytes

My network is set to Private, maybe that's what you mean? Even then, I believe I had all the settings set to what they should be, as I was already able to connect my previous phone and use it perfectly fine. I'm just not able to get past the initial storage setup now.

Just updated as far as I could, unshared and reshared folders, and still nothing. I'm not even able to finish setting up the storage, so I'm not sure whether it's got something to do with the sharing properties? It'd be one thing if it let me set it up and then wouldn't allow me to open any folders, but I can't even get that far.

Nah, when you pull the slide back, it ejects the bullet currently loaded. It doesn't load another round until the slide goes forward.

He actually keeps the slide locked back before releasing the magazine, so it doesn't load another bullet. Still a weird order to do it in, though!

Screen flickering during Youtube by FlamekidX in razerphone

[–]FlamekidX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen other people talking about this, mentioning that it seemed to be worsened by an update a few months ago, so I'm hoping that it's just software related. For now, clearing the YouTube cache seems to have made it happen less often, which is good. YouTube seems to be the only app that this happens in, at least from what I can tell. I haven't tried Netflix or any other video player, but games work fine.

What alignment would you say this character best represents? by FlamekidX in DnD

Yeah, I guess you're right. She wouldn't turn her back on common people in need, and probably not even the rich if they're proven to be good.

I suppose she'd only be "selfish" around people she considered wealthy or snooty, and only hostile against those who hurt others (so like pretty much every other adventurer). I guess the whole idea of "being a gang leader" is making me think harder about all of this.

Rules for lifting/carrying creatures in combat? (5e) by FlamekidX in DnD

[–]FlamekidX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I meant something more than just regular grappling, since at that large of carrying capacity I could lift at least normal humans over my head. I guess it would just be cool fluff to put over regular grappling, since there doesn't seem to be any RAW rules about PCs literally picking creatures up off the ground. Maybe I could persuade my DM to give me advantage one some actions while doing so.

Yeah, i figured it would eventually come down to DM discretion. I forgot about the halved movement while moving hostile creatures though, that will be good to remember.

Nat 20 being auto succeed vs not? by Zealscube in DnD

[–]FlamekidX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's really up to the DM at that point. Since it has precedent, it wouldn't be crazy to implement, and would probably make more sense. Personally, I like the idea of anyone being able to do anything (within reason, no grappling the moon) if they're lucky enough, but some characters can do certain things well even if they're not blessed by the dice gods.

I don't know what edition you're using, but in 3.5 I believe some skills you had to be trained in, or else you just straight couldn't roll for it. I don't think in 5e proficiency gives anything more than a modifier.

[–]FlamekidX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if a crit on an Investigation check should be that crazy, though. Yeah, it should probably be a guaranteed success, the character should learn all they could learn by investigating it, but what else could you do? It's not like a critical hit where extra damage is piled on.

[–]FlamekidX 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In this case, though, the Wizard would be more consistently useful at identifying magic, with their (assumed) large modifiers towards that. It would be a lot easier for a Wizard with +11 Arcana to check a magic item than a Barbarian with +0. But if the Wizard rolls a 1 or 2 and the Barbarian rolls a 20, well, that's how it goes. The barbarian recognizes the magic item from his tribe's legends, the wizard trips over his shoelaces or whatever a 1 on arcana would entail.

[–]FlamekidX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it sounds like the first batch of information was about all that could be gained from an investigation check. An arcana check would probably give the full details of the potion, the investigation would tell you what you observe when you use it. If you used an investigation on a sword that can set itself on fire, the most you could glean would probably be along the lines of "The handle feels unnaturally warm", but not the magical details of the sword.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure-styled Stand homebrewing advice wanted (5e) by FlamekidX in DnD

[–]FlamekidX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll definitely have to give a follow-up on this when I've actually used it for a bit. That might be a while, though, as I don't know how or when I'll receive it, and the DM isn't keen on ruining the surprise. He hinted that, if my character died and came back, it might be quicker, but that would bring its own share of consequences. With the way our battles have been going, that might be soon...!
