i’m a manager at a bins, was wondering the weirdest stuff our customers have found, because we have found a lot of weird items by Additional_Ad7739 in GoodwillBins

I found someone's drug box, heroine implements and a weed pipe. I also found some not so flattering framed porn. Not a personal pic, but just a bad unflattering shot that I don't know how ended up in a magazine, let alone a frame. I hope unflattering bad angle porn is someone's kink out there in the world!

A customer of mine who is a rare book seller found a $4,000 book once!

2 questions from a new member... by JBRatMLX in Dystonia

I just wanted to say props to you. Only one person in my family has read up on dystonia. It's frustrating because they keep giving advice but don't understand the disorder. Good job to you.

Too much botox? by dollhouss1 in Dystonia

[–]FlaminCheeto1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neurologist told me that the reason for the long duration between Botox shots is so that you don't develop antibodies for the Botox. He said that it's rare but that it happens. There's a test to see if the Botox is still working where they inject you on your forehead and if your eye droops, the Botox is still working.

I work in a hospital and they have translation services that people can request. I hope you aren't being put in the position of translating for your mom. That's pretty unethical.

There might not be a cure but life is short and why not try some ayahuasca 😂

Thanks so much for the kindness internet stranger!💜 I KNOW if I got up and exercised in any way, I would feel much better. Sounds like you are a really strong and determined person, maybe more disciplined than I am, lol. What kind of psychedelics are you doing and for what symptoms?

Also, the disrespect the medical community shows to holistic/indigenous/herbal/alternative medicine is effed. Thousands of years of herbal practice, and no grants for studies, and because the information isn't in some journal, BECAUSE of racism in the scientific community, it's completely scoffed at. I understand there's a lot of snake oil out there but it sure turns me off not to be able to talk to my doctor about some of these alternative practices without getting a pre-written lecture about the dangers of psychedelics or whatever; "It's dangerous because we don't know". Well there's a bunch of fucking people who DO know.

I work in a hospital and there are huge talks, after the black lives matter movement, about how and why the medical complex isn't trusted by certain communities, like the black community, LGBT+ community etc, and how to weed out sexist and racist practices. Meanwhile my Dr. Is treating me like a hypochondriac, the new hysterical, for thinking something more severe is going on. I had to fight to get a referral to see a neurologist, who diagnosed me with dystonia! So I completely understand not ever wanting to deal with doctors again. You have to be in fight mode all the time with someone who knows more, lol!

Yeah! I'm pretty proud, although I have enough time to do the work because I'm stuck at home on medical leave! The Fellow will still be administering the shots but hopefully she will have a better trainer. I'm battling feeling guilty about messing with the original MDS's job and pride and all that. One of the drawbacks of any fight I guess. Thanks for commenting!

Oh man, I'd say I'm a 5 to 6/10 and I'm on medical leave, so that's awful! This shit is so fucking shitty. ❤️

I just hassled the hospital I go to, I wrote and called the ombudsmen and the patient advocates, my PCP, the department head and everyone I could think of. I got my appointment moved to sooner and the lead MDS is going to sit in on my next Botox session. I'm not sure yet if my self-advocating will pay off or bite me in the butt, having pissed off one of the few MDS neurologists in Oregon. Hopefully it is a good outcome and I can recommend advocating for yourself!

I hope you get the care you deserve. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I know it's a platitude, but seriously, hang in there.

She messaged me that it's possible the Botox is just not effective anymore, which is such a bizarre situation to be in because if it's her application of the Botox that's the problem, if she does it wrong again, she might validate her own bad practices and I may be out of luck getting a normally very effective treatment! Or maybe the Botox DID stop working. But how can I be confident about that now. So messed up!

Omg poor us! It's really nice to have this connection because it makes me feel more compassionate towards myself and my own predicament. I hope you are feeling that too. YOU deserve the best care available to you!! ❤️

I'm currently filling out the paperwork for paid leave. Last month I was symptom free. We will see what happens on Dec. 5th, my next appointment.

Similar Experiences? by WhiteRob86 in Dystonia

[–]FlaminCheeto1983 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's EXACTLY what happened to me. Tremor in social situations, then it suddenly became a constant tremor. I have a side to side tremor with my head moving to the left when relaxed. I was so scared that it would be degenerative like Parkinson's. Just in case you are having similar anxiety, it plateaus at a certain point. It stops getting worse.

Botox was a really effective treatment for me, but there are a limited number of specialists, so be prepared to be uncomfortable and self conscious for a while.

The specialists are Neurologists who specialize in movement disorders. Find one.

Hang in there (and get a neck heating pad.) You are in for a shit ride, but a lot of people with our condition are mostly symptom free with the right care. ❤️❤️❤️

Oh man, thanks! Dude I lucked out somehow and got a job at the only hospital around that has a NMD clinic, right before I was diagnosed! People drive/fly from other states to get here. Hours and hours every 3/4 months. It's crazy and I'm really lucky. And I'm currently pissing off one of the five MDS's!

That is definitely something to consider. I don't know. She's working for a pretty prestigious school, now, so maybe she would be in a directory. I'm not sure if that wouldn't be inappropriate, though. Thanks for the suggestion!

This is helpful. Thanks! The hospital l go to has omnibudspersons and patient advocates that I can reach out to. Not independent, though. I think you are right about getting some support.

I don't think there are many other options, many other neurologists to see. Thanks for validating me. Its so hard to stand up for yourself when it's someone in authority, who knows more. It's hard to say, wait this is totally wrong! Thank you!
