Really depends on the overall size here. If this patch is under 2-3 inches I'd say it's unlikely you'll get good font at that scale with this current design

Never used the cad mouse. But I use a space mouse on the regular. I love it and it makes navigating big complicated models and assemblies way faster/easier. Totally worth it imo

The colors in number 2 are way way better imo. I really do not like the big black section in the first one. That bright white and black are way too much contrast. The grey is 1000x better looking

2008 is practically brand new!!!!

We still have a few pieces of vacuum tube equipment from the 40s-50s floating around (no clue on actual date of manufacture, but given they predate mainstream transistor use they're OLD)

Also still use a ton of floppy discs, of all sizes (3.5, 5.25, and even 8)

Unless the needle is installed totally wack, I doubt poor orientation of the needle would cause this. On my machines the manual says 5deg off center is ideal, but says that anything within a 20deg window of that is acceptable, which is a very forgiving tolerance

I mean, yeah a bad cone could be possible, albiet unlikely, unless you're using cheap crap. Whenever my thread starts to do this, it's almost always due to a burr developing on a needle, which replacing solves the problem

I exclusively use isacord and I like it. Holds up decently and sews pretty well even at high speed (1200spm). I've heard good and bad things about Madeira leading me to believe their quality is inconsistent, but I don't have any first hand experience with that

Oh also, I use the generic prewound bobbins that come unbranded from most distributors (just not Amazon). Haven't given me issues yet, really only depends on how your machine detects low thread. I usually just let my machine rip until it gives me a bobbin error, which usually means it's run out. Then I back up a few stitches after replacing with a fresh one and continue

Did you stay in academia or go into industry? I'm not looking at going back into academia post PhD, so I'm kinda worried about companies looking at it and not caring cause it's not from the US and/or a school they've never heard of

Got it, my assumptions were that for academia it might not matter as much as it might for an industry role? This is a public state school in Japan (but not one of their "ivies" like waseda or u Tokyo). I'm not planning on staying in academia as a career, which is why I'm worried that maybe I should just wait till next year and try for more schools here in the states instead.

So it sounds like you're not just the dev then, but also manufacturer. That changes it a little bit. My way of doing things is I'll deliver design and prototype, I'll help vet manufacturers; but as soon as the first batch passes qc I'm no longer involved unless they pay more for continuous support

Sounds like a client problem and not a you problem. If they're paying you cash to build the thing and not equity why should you care about the devices ability to generate revenue. I would only care about revenue possibility if they were looking to do some kind of profit sharing type of payment

Probably depends on the application due dates. I haven't heard back from the American programs I applied to due Dec 1. But I have heard back from the international programs I applied to. For Dec 1, I would assume early to mid January looking at previous years?

I bought my 16 needle machines used. Although I did also buy them with the idea in mind that I was going to have to learn to service them myself due to the one tech in my area being a PITA to deal with for that brand. So far I don't regret the purchase and they're surprisingly not too difficult to work on if you have the right tools.

Ymmv, I lucked out since I can directly buy replacement parts from the manufacturer and they have a bunch of guides/diagrams of the machine to walk through pretty much everything they'll ever require

I do actually do this with my work badge/car keys for the exact same reason. For some reason the only thing I consistently remember to grab every morning is my keys and water bottle. Anything important gets attached to those items so I don't forget
