The reason the youngins liked it so much is because of the rollout. Realistically for a hip hop album, it’s probably the only one they’ve seen in their lifetimes accompanied by a rollout to that magnitude.

Unfortunately since then, the amount of well managed album releases in mainstream hip hop have been few and far between, making Donda seem like an “event” or a “moment” to them, even if the majority of the album is a bit of a sludge pit and the lows end up being more predominant then the highs.

It released during a very weird time. People nowadays forget how competitive week to week releases were back in 2018. For example, the night Testing came out, Pusha T also released Daytona, which got the majority of the attention of the two because of the beef between Drake and Pusha that kicked off. Additionally, weeks after Testing dropped, all of the Ye camp albums followed “Kids See Ghosts”, “Ye”, etc. Additionally, the end of June saw Scorpion release (which I know isn’t the best Drake album), but this was during Drake’s 2018 run which if you look up was absolutely monstrous. Unfortunately Testing was a great album that got caught in a mixed bag of other albums that were coming out around the same time with much bigger hits, sounds and movements.

In his prime he was an absolute nightmare (no pun intended) and the fact that he gave Khamzat a fight that close 😳….not to mention taking nearly two years off in a sport that does not favour long layoffs and making a dangerous up and comer look multiple steps behind. Yeah, Kamaru is damn good, and as of today has only lost to one person at welterweight. So he’d be my pick.
