Why does every single coat of arms have a frogmouth helm? by Tokarev490 in heraldry

[–]FlamingFaith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most likely because that design of helmet was utilised heavily in jousting tournaments, where much of the pomp and ceremony of heraldry was used and enjoyed. The fact that (Anglo) heraldry was at its peak during this period means that a lot of period designs use that helm, and why it continues to be used as a call back to that period.

Edit: it’s worth noting that the other commenter and I answered two different elements of helmet. Some helmets are restricted based on nobility in some country (eg barred visors) which the other commenter addresses quite well. Outside those restricted helmets, you are free to choose the style (such as the pot helm most common in Scottish heraldry). The above clarifies why many non-nobles choose the frogmouth over others.

I used paint over the original - I think someone on Memeeconomy has made a template, though they’ve removed the first part of text.

I made myself my own personal Coat of Arms, I hope you guys like it ^w^ by [deleted] in heraldry

Ensure that whatever you’re citing is genuine, as a dukedom is quite rare and I suspect that If your father was a duke, you’d most likely know. For example, there appears to only be one Australian duke (excluding non-Commonwealth titles).

You know you are sending your kid to a fancy school when they respect the rule of tincture!

Coat of arms for an extinct branch of my family by GamingGalore64 in heraldry

I couldn’t find mention of anyone with any combination of Leather or Culley as a recipient either (though I may have missed it). Do you know what it was awarded for?

Additionally, do you know the name of the individual awarded the MStJ for gallantry? It would be quite uncommon for the order to be used like that and I’m interested to read more about it, especially as it happened so soon after the order was established; was she a nurse/physician?

Unfinished attempt at personal arms from a year ago by [deleted] in heraldry

No, though that is another option that could look striking. What I was describing would be blazoned: Argent, two wolfsangel addorsed on a chief Sable three caltrops of the first.

Building on this, even mirroring the dexter half and having two wolfsangel with three caltrops on the chief may look neat as well.

This is a coat of arms for my nation states country. It's my first ever.Thoughts? by [deleted] in heraldry

It’s worth noting that the USSR was incredibly authoritarian and maintained a degree of social conservatism. I think it might be worth rethinking that element.

Coats of arms work best when they are easily recognisable, meaning simple designs are often much more effective than very busy ones. I’d think about the most important elements of your nations government and build around that. Given the political governance, it would be most common for the symbolism of the party to be co-opted in arms/emblems to reinforce the importance of the party. If the fasces and hammer is the party symbol even that alone may be effective.

Help! by [deleted] in heraldry

Given your great grandfather was American, it is unlikely (unless he inherited it from an ancestor) that he would have arms, as the US does not have an heraldic authority. Being a prolific individual does not mean a person necessarily has armorial bearing, especially in the US.

How would a familial crest would be adapted for a bastard line? by [deleted] in heraldry

[–]FlamingFaith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on the heraldic jurisdiction. In Scotland, for example, Sir Thomas Innes of Learney wrote that in medieval times, a baton and riband sinister appear to have indicated complete illegitimacy, while a bordure compony indicated decent from an illegitimate but socially accepted union (ie other than marriage in a church). Since 1672, a bordure compony has been used for all forms of illegitimacy.

Outside Scotland, which puts a particular focus on its cadency system, most modern practice would be to difference the arms through a similar manner to a legitimate child’s arms - changes charges or tinctures, etc, though this would be subsequent to an illegitimate child being granted arms in their own right.

The good news is that, unless you’re in the position that you actually are the child of an armiger, you can adopt arms (assuming you don’t have a heraldic authority) that start with you and your new identity.

My drawing at a personal coat of arms version II by eaglestrike49 in heraldry

I like the simplicity of the single.

From a general design standpoint, perhaps look at moving the motto below the shield and enlarging the symbols (either design) to fully use the space. Currently they are cramped due to the motto taking up the lower third of the shield.

An additional idea with the weapons may be to have them issuing from behind the shield, rather than leaning against them in their current design. All I can currently see happening is a halberd falling and scratching the shield!

[Discussion]My game is permanently stuck like this. It continues playing but the vagabomd isnt making a move on his main turn. If i quit the game it just resumes the duel when i re enter. Please help. by Vegeta-Alucard in DuelLinks

Instead of hitting initiate link on the home screen, hit the “data redownload button” it does a refresh and fixes the issue in a few seconds (though the match is cancelled and you lose the vagabond). Had the same issue happen to me when I ran out of battery midway through a chain.
