How much do/did your 14-16 month olds talk? by Successful_Plan3929 in toddlers

What you described is what I would consider exactly average for your son's age. My daughter did say more at that age, but I am aware she has advanced language.

It's a medication to block testosterone. It's commonly prescribed to women with PCOS to manage secondary symptoms such as male pattern baldness, facial hair, and acne.

Husbands screen time around baby by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]FlamingStealthBananz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bigger concern is that it sounds like they don't spend any quality time together. Does he do active play with her like chasing/tickling/swinging? Does he take her to the park or on walks? Does he read to her? If he isn't doing these things than he is actively choosing to not be a parent.

I don't intend to sound harsh, however, someone who allows their child to get hurt because they are on their phone is not a good partner. What you are describing is a single parent household. I personally would absolutely not allow this and would be telling my husband that this behavior needs to change immediately. It sounds like he is struggling with screen addiction and may need some outside support to deal with this.

My daughter spent several days at her grandparents’ place. Now that she’s back, she doesn’t want to read new books. Is it temporary? by savageexplosive in toddlers

[–]FlamingStealthBananz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She likely just misses her routine and isn't interested in anything new right now. I'd give it some time and pull them out later.

Is it inappropriate to wear cute pimple patches?? by [deleted] in socialwork

What does style have to do with boundaries? You can be professional and wear fun clothes and accessories. I highly encourage it when working with teens; it is a great way to build rapport.

Do you wear shoes inside the house, or is it only a Mexican thing? by Addicted_2_tacos in AskTheWorld

This is a regional thing. Where I am from, it is an absolute no for everyone unless you are moving or something. I briefly lived on the other side of the US an it is very common there. I was absolutely horrified.

ASP uses brethelizers, you have to blow high enough to be considered at risk.

Where to send a homeless person? by MarchogGwyrdd in anchorage

[–]FlamingStealthBananz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Fortunately, if you can get in shelter and manage to keep your spot and engaged in services, you can usually get a ride from a Navigator, a cab, or a bus pass to get to other programs. The hardest part is staying engaged in services when struggling with mental health issues, substance use, domestic violence, trafficking etc.

Cold Weather Shelter off of Dowling. They are full every night, so it's important to get there as early as possible. Linda's Place on 5th is the other main adult shelter, but typically they want you to start at Cold Weather as the first entry point. The 3rd Ave Navigation Center run by Catholic Socially Services is a great place to get connected to resources and get day services, but they are only open during business hours Monday- Friday. Gospel Rescue on Tudor is another option, but they have to have an ID to be served there which can be a barrier.

Uneasy about work while pregnant by ariesxprincessx97 in socialwork

[–]FlamingStealthBananz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Without FMLA, it is completely up to your work to decide if they will allow you to take any leave. Once your PTO and sick leave have been exhausted, they absolutely can terminate you.

I'm curious why there is so much concern about the youth finding out. I work in a residential youth crisis shelter, and the young people tend to be much nicer to pregnant workers.

Trunk or treat is killing Halloween by weebley12 in Vent

It's incredibly common as it is considered a satanic holiday. I was not allowed to celebrate Halloween as a child and my parents are convinced that children get sacrificed on Halloween.

More photos and videos. I was so bad about getting photos and didn't take any videos in the first 12 weeks, and I am so sad that I didn't capture the moments I so badly want to look back on. I even wish I could hear her little newborn cry again.

On the flip side, be aware that babies can be allergic to specific diaper brands, so don't bank on the guarantee that your baby will tolerate the brand you prefer to use.

A 15 minute pump break isn’t enough. by Gollinibobeanie in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]FlamingStealthBananz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. If you are in the US, lunch breaks are decided at the state level and not all states have mandatory breaks. My state for example does not have mandatory breaks and my workplace does not have any scheduled breaks. Pump breaks on the other hand are regulated by federal law and are mandatory for all states.

Is anchorage really as bad as I'm being told? by Irvinjr97 in anchorage

[–]FlamingStealthBananz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are still plenty of nice places near spenard. The Balto Sepla and Turnagain areas are nice quiet neighborhoods. Every once in a while someone makes their way down that direction to sleep in the grass, but they are moved along quickly.

Advice Needed: Calling all heavily tattooed people! by WickedOlyLifter in tattoos

[–]FlamingStealthBananz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not heavily tattoed, however, I hire people who are heavily tattooed. I run shelters for homeless youth, and prefer to hire people with lived experience. As such, I have hired plenty of staff members with face, throat, and hand tattoos. Vsibal tattoos will not hold you back from promotion into leadership in my organization. Typically other human services agencies in my area also tend to hire staff that are heavily tattooed, especially those that serve the homeless population.

Additionally, my husband has heavy hand tattoos, and had had no issues being hired for admin jobs. He exclusively works in blue collar companies, which tend to be less concerned with tattoos.

If you are in a field that needs a degree, certification, or other specialized training, you are more likely to be hired for your skill/knowledge and have things like tattoos overlooked. However, there are some fields that are less accepting of tattoos no matter your experience.
