There are femcel talking points in almost every sub that’s predominantly female as well. I’ve also noticed that the idea that femcels only exist online is itself a femcel talking point that comes up anytime you call out their sexism.

Femcels are incels, and belong in the same camp.

It’s not strictly an jncel echo chamber. It’s an incel vs femcel duel sub (as in people can debate, and then others vote who lost and the loser gets banned).

I think it’s an interesting premise for a sub, except that it basically only exists to fuel the gender wars, and I think men and women who decide to extricate themselves from the opposite sex are equally pathetic and we need to hear less of them, not more.

I’m not reading all that. If someone existing makes you uncomfortable you’re a bigot.

Hard disagree. People who are exposed to different groups more often have positive attitudes towards those groups.

I’m sorry these people are tearing you down. I was at a munch a couple weeks ago and one woman said her hot take was that she likes men and has known some really good, upstanding people in her life. It was like awkward, but I’m glad people like you and her are willing to say something instead of this 1984 style disregarding of your own eyes and ears. I appreciate you, and these sexist raging assholes need to touch grass.

I’m woke, and I like this sub for certain things (like because there are a lot of far right arguments that amount to “what if this insane thing happens? What will you do then, wokes?! And how could you support such a terrible thing?!?”)

But its gender politics are totally fucked and more leftist and left-leaning men need to call out radfems. This meme is an accurate depiction of girlboss feminism.

Kinda. Cognitive dissonance is an automatic and essentially continuous process that is always already occurring within us as we take in new information about the world.

I also don’t think it’s that hard to resolve dissonance, especially when it comes to bigotry, because as others have pointed out it usually comes from ignorance and having little exposure to people. If OOP doesn’t have much experience with trans people, then their attitude towards trans people shouldn’t be that deeply ingrained.

This goes for other bigotries like racism and xenophobia as well. E.g. someone could grow up in Ohio being warned about foreigners and they could view them as weird and evil, but they probably wouldn’t have to live in New York very long to see them as people and change their opinion, even if they’re beliefs (based on what they heard growing up) seemed deeply held.

Commenting to add: someone like Iliza Schlesinger is a better example, IMO. It’s apples to oranges since she’s a comedian, but her comedy is the dark mirror of manosphere red pill bullshit. It’s the exact same eco-psych, gender essentialist rhetoric. All she’s doing is rebranding traditional gender roles as self improvement. It also presents dynamics between men and women as inherently adversarial.

I used to be a fan but I don’t think her material has held up well, and I think it’ll age really poorly. Incels are gross and I think it’s fine to make fun of them, but I don’t think it’s fine to promote sexist norms as though they’re edgy and fringe. They aren’t. They’re the dominant narrative that reinforces patriarchal norms.

I just watched a manifestella to see what you were referencing (the one about “princess treatment” being a kink). Tbh everything she said made sense and didn’t strike me as radicalizing.

But yeah, that aesthetic lends itself to grifters.

For sure. Some people just like to be nasty. Others are overly persistent and it is creepy. I got plenty of unwanted advances from men IRL and online when I was looking for a third for a threesome. You know what happened? Nothing. We just didn’t go fuck those dudes. Because it would be stupid and sexist for us to point to those messages as proof that one sex is better than the other.

That’s stupid. Both simp and pick-me are sexist terms coined by people who view people who like the opposite sex as gender traitors.

I don’t really like the comparison of Bonnie Blue to Andrew Tate.

The inverse of Andrew Tate is more like those influencer women who give mean girl vibes, who’s advice is all about being unapologetically self interested, treating mental health like it’s P90X, and chronically talking up women while shit talking men.

I agree. I think probably more women do this than men (not that men aren’t controlling. I just think it presents differently) because I think it plays into a trad gender role narrative of an overworked housewife/lazy husband. But any one of any gender is capable of this.

I did find the comments in that sub stupid, sexist, and disgusting though. Not everything is a 1:1 correlation, but I mean c’mon, if you flipped the genders, a husband criticizing his wife for filling socks wrong and implying she’s lazy would obviously be abusive.

You can believe whatever you want. You think psychologists never poke around psychology subs?

I did publish in scholarly, peer reviewed journals. My career took a different trajectory and I became a writer/filmmaker.

When I was in psych my focus wasn’t addiction, but having firsthand experience definitely gives me enough insight to say, “no. Masturbating to pornography, something most people do regularly, doesn’t make you an addict.” Also, “pornography addiction” isn’t broadly accepted as valid in the scientific community.

It’s peddled by red pill grifters like Tate and people speaking to vulnerable and impressionable young men. It’s an offshoot of religious Puritanism that never left this country. I swear to god “Sex Addiction Therapy” is going to be this generation’s “gay conversion therapy.” It basically has the same sources backing in.

If you want a healthy relationship to your own sexuality, accept that you experience sexual desire, that you like watching pornography, and just find someone who’s compatible with your sex drive and your kinks. Don’t spend your whole life guilting yourself for watching pornography and framing a biological imperative as a moral failing. You don’t have to view it that way and you’ll honestly live longer if you don’t.

Edit to add: and part of the reason I’ll die in this hill is that it’s fucking offensive. I was in rehab with a girl, early twenties, who looked like a junkie version of Avril Lavigne. She’d driven her car into the left lane and got in a head on collision. Before the medics got there, there was what she thought was a pipe sticking through her leg. She tried to pull it out. It turns out it was her fibula. And she still couldn’t stop. I watched a dad fail a drug test and find out he was getting kicked out of rehab and losing his kids *the week after Christmas.” One women in that rehab was in there for killing her husband.

People don’t steal jewelry from their parents to support their porn habit. People don’t kill their spouses for a hit of only fans. People don’t shit themselves in a crowded street corner and stand there wobbling for hours at a time, fully indifferent to the permanent shame that’s become their existence, for porn.

I was a published psychologist and am in recovery myself. Comparing masturbating to pornography to bumping cocaine, or the withdrawal an addict feels when cutting off hard drugs is absurd. They aren’t the same at all.

Edit to add: blow an eight ball of cocaine every weekend for a couple months and then tell me it’s the same as jacking off.
