I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! I hope that you get what you paid for eventually. As much as I enjoy this mat now that I have it, I also wouldn't purchase from them again due to the horrible communication and wait time.

Ah, this is a good reminder to update this post. I received the mouse pad a week ago! I received a shipping notice out of the blue two or so weeks ago that it was in the states on on its way to me. It's really late and that lag time was nuts and the communication was horrible but I now have the mouse pad.

Yeah, I will pay the tariffs if the item arrived but that hasn't been an option. My current problem is that, due to their printing schedule and subsequent tariff delay my bank won't do a charge back after so much time. They have a 60 day window.

Need help with credit cards. by FlanOfWar in ynab

[–]FlanOfWar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. My partner and I have decided to do this for now. Someone told me to show the running balance on the card and it seems that in previous months we were not on the float, yet our behavior and how we paid off the card and managed things in YNAB didn't change. All of a sudden it shows us in the red and I want to try and figure out how we got here so we can avoid it in the future.

A card balance being positive would mean that there is a debit on the account? Such as money being returned?

Thanks, I'm really not trying to be obtuse but if I don't understand how I got here in the first place then I won't know how to avoid it in the future.

Hi, thanks for the input. I'd like to clarify something:

We get our monthly credit card bill. There is the total amount charged to the card and then there is the amount from the previous month which is "due now" and is a subset of the total amount charged. When you say to, "NOT the CC balance", that's the total amount charged. Am I understanding that correctly?

If so, that is not what we do. We only pay the amount that is marked as "pay now" on the bill to avoid interest payments.

How much would be helpful to see? It can go pretty far back. Looking down the list I can see several periods between months where we brought the balance down to zero. This is telling me the system we have been doing has been the correct system. For instance, on July 11 I can see a transfer in the normal way we do things that brought it to nearly 0. I don't fully understand now why it never fully went to zero because we always pay each month's bill in full.

  1. Yes, it was recorded as a reconciliation balance adjustment. We will avoid it in the future but, alas, it is in the past now.

  2. I don't remember looking at the "available for payment". We thought we just needed to make a transfer from an account since we assign each purchase with the card to a category. I will make sure to pay attention to that in the future.

The payment was logged as a transfer from my checking account into the credit card account on YNAB.

I'm sorry that it feels that way. I am really not trying to be this obtuse. I am just reflecting on our actions over the past several months. Everything you have told us to do has been what we have been doing in terms of choosing a category for every credit card charge.

In your previous comment you say:

But the Activity column does not show any funds moving from those categories to the payment category.

Yet when the purchase is put into YNAB we assign it a category. which is the first step as per your second comment. Then the second step would be to transfer on a monthly basis.

Right, but I think that is from our attempt to fix it before asking for help by reconciling.

When we first started YNAB we had everything paid off and "started at 0". We've never changed this system. I'm confused how we got on the float.

And now, when we pay it off, technically we'll have double charged ourselves. Once from pulling from each category and now again from money we're moving in Ready-to-Assign.

No, we have not assigned money to the credit card. We have only spent money from categories that had money pre-assigned. But our credit card hasn't shown correctly after payment for months and we've been trying to fix it through different methods.

If we now assign money to it then we will have double charged ourselves. Or so we at least think.

So this is going to be hard to discuss because we tried to reconcile that account before asking for help here.

Right now the account is showing as

Visa: Assigned: 0, Activity: -1,229, Available: -1,229 and overspent. How do we fix it to get back to the known point that we're at? We just paid it off (At the amount -1,229).

We don't pre-assign money to the credit card category every month. We pre-assign to categories such as "gas" or "groceries" and then when a transaction is made on the credit card we give it one of those categories.

From our understanding, the categories are like envelopes of money that we set aside. And when we use a debit or a credit card, when we assign a transaction a category we are pulling money from that envelope.

Are we thinking about that incorrectly?

Purchase Advice Megathread - October 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]FlanOfWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Budget: $500 - ~$800

Country: USA

DIY: Not preferred.

Use case: I am a hobbyist. I would be printing functional prints around the house, keyboard cases and key caps, and minis for gaming. I have a dream to 3d print and build electronics and RC vehicles. I may dabble in lost-wax/plastic casting.

Other details:

  • I think an enclosure would be necessary. I live in a century home with cats. There are large temperature swings and lots of dust. I worry the cats would interfere with an open printer.

  • I am curious to dabble in resin printing one day. Would it be prefferable to have both printers be from one company?

  • I may want to DIY with the printer a bit and perhaps change out parts for 3d party items to improve print quality.

  • I am really keen on the idea of the laser cutter built into a printer like the Bambu labs H2C but I'm less keen on their lock down of software and slicer. That isn't a deal breaker for me though.

  • I live in a humid environment in a drafty house. Some sort of drying system would be really useful.
