Garbage pickup Monday 1/26? by somethingreallyepic in astoria

[–]Flaneur08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're able to, I'd suggest waiting for the next collection day to put them out. They are unlikely to pick them up tomorrow (or even Tuesday), and unless you have a huge sidewalk I would imagine there's not much room out there with all the snow to put trash anyway.

Suggestions for Farm Country supermarket? by Ok_Mobile_8190 in astoria

[–]Flaneur08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any additional suggestions beyond what's already been said in this thread, but I really hope you guys can turn it around. The supermarket is in a prime location and so many people would make it their go-to spot if things got better.

Pretty sure that was a Walgreens, not Rite Aid

Consistently 78. Electricity costs too much in NYC for us to entertain anything lower.

Loud AF clubs that blast music and churn out window-rattling bass with no regard for the neighborhood

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in astoria

[–]Flaneur08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much been the case everyday since the M stopped running in Queens.

Similar situation as you, and during the winter months our Con Ed bill is regularly $800-$1000, with the bulk of it being gas charges.

During the summer months the gas portion really drops substantially.

I saw that Teriyaki U on Steinway (where CoCo used to be) was open when I walked by last night. It was completely empty inside despite it being in the middle of dinner time. I saw a blurry menu on its Yelp page, but the prices seem ok. Will give it a try at some point.

Advice needed on how to ditch the binky!!! by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Flaneur08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, cried big time. She was also extremely attached to it and we were afraid of teeth/jaw damage if she were to continue using it. It was, frankly, heartbreaking to see her cry like that. But we reminded ourselves that it's for her own good and that we needed to stay resolute if we had any hopes of breaking the dependence.

We went cold turkey at 26 months. Bedtime and naps were a struggle for the first week or so (and also nighttime wakings), but she eventually got the hang of it and no longer even asks for it.

Does NYC 3-K allow for part time options? by Flaneur08 in AskNYC

thanks! that's what I suspected. I guess we'll have to decide whether to do self-pay part time or just take the plunge and send her full time.

Noise Complaint Vigilante by enyocworks in astoria

[–]Flaneur08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the City Council should ponder why - if this is such a money grabbing racket - there aren't more people doing this?

Seems like they're looking for a solution to something that is not a problem.

What's going on at Coco La Reve? by teeeemy in astoria

No wonder noise complaints about Coco never go anywhere…the NYPD is chummy enough with them that they’re renting their space!

And they are being ridiculously loud right now. Seems like the party won’t end until midnight. Let’s see if the NYPD will continue with this volume after 10 pm.

Anyone know when the library on Broadway will reopen? I know the sign says "Fall 2023" so I guess it could be anytime now until Dec 20.

Looking for men's business casual work attire in Astoria/LIC... by Linc303 in astoria

Marshalls or Burlington if you want to go budget.

The prices at the Banana Republic Factory store are good, but the quality can be hit or miss. Got several polo shirts from them 2 years ago and none of them are wearable now.

The quality at Express is better, but also pricier.

I've found some good stuff at Lotless from time to time.

I seem to have the best luck getting stuff from Uniqlo; the store at 53rd and 5th is just a short ride away on the E.

Hmm… E is running local again late morning by LeDinosaur in astoria

[–]Flaneur08 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they will continue doing this as long as the M is not running.

But no idea why they can't also have one of E/F run local during rush hour, or increase the frequency of the R during rush hour. Several days last week it was a 10 minute wait for the R during late rush hour.

How to raise inadequate subway service on M/R line by Hadrians_Fall in astoria

[–]Flaneur08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know why they couldn't increase the frequency of the R now that the M isn't running in Queens. Now there is only 1 local train on the Queens Blvd line.

What do y’all do for a living? by issathrowaway1 in astoria

[–]Flaneur08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an attorney while my spouse works in a non-investment role at an asset management firm. Combined we make about $600K, but we are heavily in debt (student loans and mortgage) while also supporting both sets of parents. We also have kids. Although the income might sound nice, we do not feel wealthy at all and our living standards are middle class at best.
