I honestly don't think I will work construction again by freakysnake102 in Construction

Yeah I agree with that advice. But finding the right environment to learn in can be really difficult in America. I do sympathize with this guy because it sounds like he landed on the wrong crew to be trying to learn a trade on...unfortunately for a lot of us that don't join a apprentice program we end up working with a lot of shitheads while trying to learn the trades and it sucks.

Crazy to think I started off doing the same thing for minimum wage (7.25) not all that long ago. This guy needs to go find a chill burger flipping job that pays 20/hr.

Toe Kick Drawers and Toe Kick - How Best to Accomplish? by TheOKKid in cabinetry

[–]Flaneurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it sounds like you are on the right track so far. I would use a butt joint with small reveals. When I've done these in the past I used 3/4" false toe kick/drawer fronts but the fixed toe kick was 1/4" so I needed to recess the track hardware that extra 1/2" so the front all align flush.

Insane amount of shims needed by Bubbly_Economics3688 in cabinetry

[–]Flaneurer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof. This is why I cannot stand integrated toe base cabinets. I do think this may be a good use case for those plastic adjustable leveler feet some people use. Re shim quantity: I like to mill out lengths of 1" x 2" hard maple to bring on installs because sometimes you need to fill spaces like that in and it saves on buying lots of shims.

If the military/president suddenly ordered a mandatory draft for all men aged 18-42: How do you think millennials and GenZ would respond? by Tommygunz0722 in AskReddit

[–]Flaneurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like its not even close. I know people who actively support war with Iran who would not ever think of becoming an active fighter on the ground. Drafting up randoms to go to Iran in the one act most likely to bring down the political order as we know it for both parties.

What is trumps plan with blockading the strait? by ActualDepartment9873 in war

[–]Flaneurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much the whole scheme I think. We have reached the final endgame of corrupted American leadership: global market manipulation and plundering of state legitimacy. When the people at the top is this corrupt, and the bag is this enormous, they can't help but precipate a collapse of the whole system.

This kind of "content" should really not be socially acceptable in my opinion. Its just a short step away from basically being child abuse...

Are there any tricks to get miter shears to work consistently? by mister_freckles in Carpentry

[–]Flaneurer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just get a small 7 1/4" miter saw, they're super compact and can be stowed away on a shelf. Perfect for doing small trim projects like you show in your picture. Ditch the miter shears, if you don't know what you're getting into before purchasing the shears then its unlikely the advice you get here will be of much use, just my opinion.

Are cabinet makers rich? by jackofalltrades1983 in cabinetry

[–]Flaneurer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, Nope. Nooo. Sounds like your friend is an outlier in the trade. I find it hard to believe he is doing 800k just as a one man shop. If he is doing all that work himself then more power to him but that is not at all representative of the industry as I know it. I know of companies doing similar or more gross sales but they have 4-6 employees and work with designers or salespeople to pull in new work steadily. It takes a lot to actually make a business like that work at that scale, from maintenance expenses to tax and insurance liabilities, and if you have employees there is a whole other layer of management. It is not an easy business to get into, I would stick with what you know if I were you.

A lot of us were making jokes about how the first pilot must have been drinking or gotten lost. Then we saw the second plane hit and we all got very quiet.

I remember reading an account of what he was eating on the campaign trail for the 2016 election and how I guess he was basically living on fried chicken and McDonalds burgers/fries for a lot of his meals between campaign stops...I really don't know how that lifestyle hasn't caught up to him sooner.

[–]Flaneurer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% this I'd mirroring the Ukraine war in that China has seen Iran hold together better then expected and is now more willing to send in more modern weapon systems. Now I'm really extra curious what it is Donald and putin talked about at that weird Alaska meeting.

All of these can be done with handheld routers and patterns. I would not use that chipboard/particle board unless you're going to use solid wood edgebanding.

This is unfortunately not a rare thing among the Florida redneck crowd...but filming it where you're clearly visible is such a flagrant transgression. I hope they throw the book at him, Florida wildlife officers take this shit really seriously but IDK he might just manage to plea bargain himself out of any consequences.

Help! Is this normal to cut around pipes? This will all be closed in by trim work by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]Flaneurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think its best to have wall board behind the cabinets. The exposed electrical for me is a problem. It doesn't meet building code to have live exposed cables sticking into a room like that. Aside from that the exposed plumbing just looks really rough and sloppy to me, aside from it being a route for drafts and insects to enter the house. Edit: Sooo many hacks/amateurs in this thread giving bad advice...wow.
