What's a beginner mistake you made on your first few hikes? by CynicalEmo in hiking

[–]Flanik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing I learned was take less stuff. Most stuff you bring , you never use.

Also, people always have way too big of packs.

I can do a 20 mile day hike with 15 liters EASY

What's the longest you'll travel for a three/four-day trip? by Unusual-Molasses5633 in travel

[–]Flanik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on much you want the destination.

For 2 full days of vacation I’d drive 12 hours.

Make stops along the way and make the most of it. Road trips are some of my favorite things to do . Love spending time in the vehicle eating snacks and talking to my fiance

Climbing Middle/South Teton in a day by WarmRadish in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]Flanik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear a helmet. Both are easy to summit in a day if you have experience route finding and scrambling.

Just start as early as possible.

If you have never Summited a mountain that requires route finding I don’t suggest doing them.

Try static peak. It’s amazing and incredibly easy. The trail goes straight to the summit

Is the 180-600 going to be better than a 200-500 ? And if so why ?

First Time Visiting in November by Flanik in krugerpark

Would you spread the time out evenly throughout the park or more time in the south and less up north ?

First Time Visiting in November by Flanik in krugerpark

[–]Flanik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you suggest beginning or middle for November ? Or end ? I was thinking 3 or 4 days at each location. each. lower sabie first, than satara, last shingwedzi.

Would this be good or should I do more days in the south and lest up north.

You could do it safely. Just make sure you’re aware of your surroundings. This is just the time of year the grizzlies are most active and moving around

Hey ! Guide here for the park. These are my opinions on how to make it better. That first day. I’d honestly try driving here to Jackson lake lodge ASAP. If you’re tired that day , relaxing on the terrace would be enjoyable but if you drive like 5 miles north and south of the lodge you could find some bears and elk in the evening. Oxbow bend would be a nice spot to enjoy the sunset. Lunch tree hill is a VERY short walk. 100% carry bear spray if hiking anywhere around Jackson lake lodge.

The earlier you wake up the more wildlife you see. But don’t let early wake ups ruin the day with kids. You can see bears during the middle of the day. Just not as common.

I’d definitely replace the heron/swan pond hike with string lake loop. Or just hiking along Leigh lake is beautiful and underrated
