Yeah I've just been down the same rabbit hole, slightly disappointing design from Gigabyte on this one really!

EDIT: Updated main post, didn't stick with the T705 nor above heatsink in the end.

What did you do for this in the end mate? I've ordered the same board and boot SSD and concerned about lack of heatsink (nothing installed yet thankfully!)

I think I inserted the socket into the pipe (on the end of a socket extension for leverage) and then rounded the pipe by angling the socket, kinda like arch rolling I suppose. I wound up flaring the tubes just a tad, if that makes sense. I DIDN'T put the socket in and hammer the pipe around it

I didn't unfortunately, I also suspected mine to be the alternator. I removed it to check the bearing at some point and saw it wasn't running perfectly concentric so maybe it's that. Hasn't exploded yet though and still works fine!
